6. ADJUSTMENTS
PLANING CONCAVE SURFACES
Approximation planing:
Draw a line of reference R, for approximation pla-
ning (Fig. 2).
Set the cut depth to "0" using knob C (Fig. 2).
Set the shoe and the base to a radius slightly
lower than the radius to be planed using knobs A
and B (Fig. 2).
Set the shoe to the desired cut depth using knob
C (Fig. 2).
Mount the lateral fence as indicated in section 5
(Fig. 1).
Plane out irregularities using the shoe surface as
a support to commence cutting and move suc-
cessively along the areas with irregularities
towards the line of reference.
Finish planing:
To plane a concave surface with uniform thick-
ness or to give a continuous finish to a close pla-
ned surface as described in the previous section,
proceed as follows:
Set the cut depth to "0" using knob C (Fig. 3).
Loosen knobs A and B which secure the shoe
and the base. Place the planer on the surface to
be worked so that the shoe and the base adapt
to the surface, and secure them in the desired
position using knobs A and B (Fig. 3). Check that
the slipper and the base are parallel, making sure
that the same division is shown over straps L
(Fig. 10) on both sides of the planer. Adjust the
cut depth to the desired level using knob C (Fig.
3).
Mount the lateral fence as indicated in section 5
(Fig.1).
To plane the piece, use the shoe surface as a
support guide to commence cutting and gradual-
ly widen the support to the entire base.
PLANING CONVEX SURFACES
Approximation planing:
Draw a line of reference R, for approximation pla-
ning (Fig. 4).
Loosen knob A, set the cut depth to "0" using
knob C and secure the shoe in a horizontal posi-
tion once again using knob A (Fig. 4). Place the
machine on the piece to be planed. Give the
base a slightly higher radius than that of the
piece to be planed and secure it in position using
knob B (Fig. 4).
Set the desired cut depth using knob C (Fig. 4).
Mount the lateral fence as indicated in section 5
(Fig. 1).
To plane out irregularities by area, use the shoe
or base surface as a support to commence cut-
ting. Once on the piece, modify the plane position
slightly so that it is supported on the ends of the
shoe and the base, closest to the blades as seen
in (Fig. 4).
Finish planing:
To plane a convex surface with uniform thickness
or to give a continuous finish to a close planed
surface as described in the previous section, pro-
ceed as follows:
Set the cut depth to "0" using knob C (Fig. 5).
Loosen knobs A and B which secure the shoe
and the base. Place the planer on the surface to
be worked, adapting the shoe and the base to the
radius of the piece, securing them in the desired
position using knobs A and B, respectively (Fig.
5). Check that slipper and the base are parallel,
making sure that the same division is shown over
straps L (Fig. 10) on both sides of the planer.
Adjust the cut depth to the desired level using
knob C (Fig. 5).
Mount the lateral fence as indicated in section 5
(Fig. 1).
To plane the piece, use the shoe surface as a
support guide to commence cutting and gradual-
ly widen the support to the entire base.
PLANING FLAT SURFACES
Loosen knobsAand B (Fig. 6) to release the front
shoe and the base from the curvature straps.
Set the shoe to "0" using knob C (Fig. 6).
Place the planer on the flat surface. Pressing the
rear part of the base so that it adapts to the hori-
zontal plane, secure knob B (Fig. 6). Set the shoe
to the desired cut depth using knob C and secu-
re knob A in this position (Fig. 6).
PLANING WITH CONCAVE BLADES
(Optional)
To give surfaces a rustic, old-fashioned finish that
looks identical to an adze finish.
Getting the planer ready
Mount the concave blades as shown in Figures
11 to 16.
Position the base and shoe of the machine, as if
you were about to plane a concave surface (Fig.
2). Place the shoe at its maximum cutting depth.
Rustic planing
To carry out a planing job that will leave concave
marks in the lumber, position the planer on the
lumber so that it is leaning against the front end
of the shoe. Then switch it on and swing it dow-
nwards. When it reaches the end of the shoe, the
blades will begin to cut the lumber. At this point,
stop the swinging motion and move the planer
lengthways so as to lengthen the cutting mark in

zoals gezien in (Fig. 4).
Schaven ter afwerking:
Om een bol oppervlak met eenvormige dikte te
schaven of een continue afwerking te geven aan
een gesloten geschaafd oppervlak zoals
beschreven in het vorige deel, ga als volgt te
werk:
Stel de snijdiepte in op "0" met knop C (Fig. 5).
Draai knoppen A en B los die de schoen en de
zool bevestigen. Plaats de schaafmachine op het
te bewerken oppervlak zodat de schoen en de
zool zich aan de radius van het stuk aanpassen
en bevestig ze in de gewenste positie met knop-
pen A en B (Fig. 5). Controleer dat de glijschoen
en de zool parallel zijn, zorg ervoor dat dezelfde
verdeling getoond is over riemen L (Fig. 10) aan
beide kanten van de zaagmachine.
Stel de snijdiepte in op het gewenste niveau met
knop C (Fig. 5).
Monteer de laterale geleider zoals aangegeven
in deel 5 (Fig. 1).
Om het stuk te schaven, gebruik het schoenop-
pervlak als een steungeleider om het snijden te
beginnen en verbreed geleidelijk de steun naar
de volledige zool.
VLAKKE OPPERVLAKKEN SCHAVEN
Draai de knoppen A en B los (Fig. 6) om de voor-
schoen en de zool los te laten uit de krommin-
gsriemen.
Stel de schoen in op "0" met knop C (Fig. 6).
Plaats de schaafmachine op het vlakke opper-
vlak. Druk op het achterste deel van de zool
zodat deze zich aan het horizontale vlak aanpast
en draai knop B vast (Fig. 6). Stel de schoen in
op de gewenste snijdiepte met knop C en draai
knop A vast in deze positie (Fig. 6).
MET HOLLE MESSEN SCHAVEN (Optioneel)
Om oppervlakken een rustieke, ouderwetse
afwerking te geven die identiek lijkt aan een dis-
selafwerking.
De schaafmachine klaar maken
Monteer de holle messen zoals getoond in
Figuren 11 tot 16.
Positioneer de zool en de schoen van de machi-
ne alsof u een hol oppervlak wilt schaven (Fig. 2).
Plaats de schoen op zijn maximum snijdiepte.
Rustiek schaven
Om een schaafactie uit te voeren die holle mer-
ktekens in het hout zal laten, positioneer de
schaafmachine op de plank zodat deze tegen het
voorste uiteinde van de schoen leunt. Schakel
dan in en zwenk naar beneden. Wanneer deze
het einde van de schoen raakt, beginnen de
messen de plank te snijden. Stop op dit punt de
zwenkende beweging en verplaats de schaafma-
chine overlangs om de snijmarkering in de plank
te verlengen. Hervat dan de zwenkbeweging tot
het mes de snede verlaat.
7. VERVANGEN EN AFSTELLEN VAN
RECHTE MESSEN

AARSCHUWING! Trek de stekker uit het stop-
contact voor u de volgende bewerkingen uitvoert.
MESSEN VERVANGEN
Draai de schroeven D (Fig. 7) los met de mesbe-
vestigingssleutel en verplaats het mes lateraal
om het uit de steun te halen. Plaats een nieuw
mes in de steun of gebruik de tweede snijkant
van het mes dat net verwijderd werd. Met de hulp
van een liniaal, S, bevestig dat de kant van het
mes
het niveau van de schoen en de zool bereikt zon-
der uit te steken en draai de schroeven D vast
(Fig. 7).

AARSCHUWING! Het is zeer belangrijk de
kant van het mes te verifiëren, als het uitsteekt
boven het niveau van de schoen of de zool, zal
het wrijven tegen de laterale geleider wanneer
het vierkant wordt gebruikt.
MESSEN AFSTELLEN
De messteunen zijn al in de fabriek afgesteld en
vereisen geen verdere aanpassingen wanneer de
messen worden vervangen. Indien u ze echter toch
opnieuw wilt afstellen, ga dan als volgt te werk:
Stel de schoen in op "0" met knop C (Fig. 7).
Plaats een liniaal S tussen de schoen en de zool
en draai de schroeven E los van de messteun om
het mes hoger of lager te halen tot het perfect
gelijk is met de liniaal en parallel is met de zool
van de machine. (Fig. 7).

AARSCHUWING! Zorg ervoor dat de schroe-
ven D (Fig. 7) correct vastgedraaid zijn voor u het
werk met de machine hervat.
Gebruik voor de vervanging van meshoudersy-
stemen enkel originele RUPES-componenten.
8. DE DRIJFRIEM VERVANGEN
WAARSCHUWING! Trek de stekker uit het stop-
contact voor u de volgende bewerkingen uitvoert.
Draai de schroeven G los (Fig. 8) en verwijder
bescherming F. Vervang de versleten riem door
een originele RUPES-riem en plaats deze op de
juiste manier in de riemwieltanden, zonder deze
te forceren.
9. AANSLUITING VOOR STOPAFZUIGING
