How to use this manual
The Tacx Cosmos is a trainings device that in combination with the bicycle and a personal com-
puter is used to improve the physical condition. Before using the Cosmos follow the mounting
instructions in the proper sequence. Use the Cosmos exclusively for purposes mentioned in the
manual. If the Cosmos is used for purposes other than those mentioned in the manual, a save
use of the device can not be guaranteed.
While in use, the wheel of your bike and the flywheel of the brake system will be spinning
at high speed. For this reason keep children and pets safely away from the Cosmos.
Product registration
During the installation a registration form appears. After filling in the form completely, you can
register online via the Internet or print the form and send it the Tacx Service Centre in the
Netherlands. There are benefits for registering your purchase. You will receive free updates
and information about new developments.
Online Update
Via the ONLINE UPDATE button (in Windows start menu), you can automatically install the
latest Cosmos software version. The new version will overwrite the existing one. This service
is only possible if your computer has an Internet connection. To update to the latest firmware
for the Cosmos & motorbreak, visit our website www.tacx.com > support

Hot Surface.
Care!
• The trainer's motor brake and adapter can become quite hot following prolonged and
intensive use. Avoid touching!
• Warning high voltage - do not open the motor brake or the adapter. Opening components
also invalidates the guarantee.
• When the adapter is in use do not place it in direct sunlight or on carpet, because this
negatively affects the heat dissipation.
• Condensation can corrode the adapter circuit board. Do not use the trainer in damp
rooms. This will avoid damage.
• Use only the original earthed mains power cable supplied and do not use an extension
cable.
• Do not mount a fixed-wheel bicycle on the trainer.

1 COSMOS ERGOTRAINER
The Cosmos is the ultimate training machine - a super power trainer for professional cyclists
and amateurs who want to get the most out of their training, scientifically. This high-end ergo
trainer is equipped with the sensational motor brake, which enables extra arduous training.
For example, with a low cadence, you can get more than 1,000 Watts of braking power. You
can adjust the gradient between -5 and +20, which will easily produce a resistance of 350
Watts at a cycling speed of 15-km per hour. With Cosmos, you can adjust your programs
according to power, gradient or heart rate. Naturally, free cycling is always an option.
In particular, heart-rate training is an extremely effective method. You cycle at the heart rate
you set for yourself; while the computer continually adjusts resistance to the rear motorbrake.
You can enter up to 99 users, each with their own personal particulars, in different teams.
Besides serious training sessions, you can also ride in races. You can make them as exciting as
you want. You can enter five opponents. During the race, via the histogram, they are
continually visible on the display. In this way, you can keep track of your position and that of
your opponents.
Fortius software
The Cosmos comes with the Fortius pre-set menus and Analyser software. This allows you to
easily create training programs and set your user data. Via the USB connection you can send
your data to the Cosmos computer so that you can run your training programs on your stand-
alone, wherever you want.
Sensational motorbrake
This high-end ergotrainer is equipped with the sensational motor brake, which enables extra
arduous high torque training. For example with a low cadence you can get more than 1,000
Watts of braking power. You can adjust the gradient between -5 and +20, which will easily
produce a resistance of 350 Watts at a cycling speed of 15-km per hour.
The brake was designed to release heat during cycling, which is then converted to current and
fed back into the mains. In this way you generate your own energy!

General information
When the word 'Key' is used in the manual this means a button on the Cosmos computer must
be pushed. When the word 'link' is used this means you must push a virtual button that's visible
on the LCD display of the Cosmos computer.

Global reset of the Cosmos Computer
To return the cosmos computer to the factory preset settings you can do a global reset. To do
this connect the cosmos to the motor break, press the ENTER,CANCEL,CURSOR LEFT &
CURSOR RIGHT keys together at the same time for 5 seconds. Global reset (or possibly the
Dutch words 'volledig resetten functie') will be displayed & then the Cosmos is returned to the
factory settings with all the user information erased.

Instructions for the Cosmos Computer
The main menu is the screen that is displayed when Cosmos is first turned on. On the left side
of the screen is an illustration with information about the selected training session. Under this is
indicated which user & opponent(s) are selected. On the right side are links to the next scree-
ns.
Start Starts the training session once you agree to the selections made
Training Select, create, change or remove a training program
Opponenten Select up to a maximum of five opponents. Via the percentage (%) link make
each of them ride faster or slower.
Settings The selections for during training session
User Select, Create, Change or remove personal information from users in
differents teams.
Setup Global Cosmos settings that include Language, Km/Mi & sound.
Here you can also calibrate the motorbreak for more precision.

This screen holds technical information about the Cosmos computer & motorbreak. In this
screen you can not use the visible links or make changes. To exit this screen push CANCEL
or ENTER.

Users can enter various teams in the Cosmos. Each user has his/ her own identity card with
personal data, which can be opened from this field. The Tacx Team has ten factory-installed
cyclists.
Select This screen consists of two menus. Left is TEAMS & right is USERS (that are
included within the selected team). The team list will be selected already.
To navigate the TEAM list press UP or DOWN & then press ENTER to make
a selection. Now you can select a rider from this team on the panel on the
right side following the same procedure.
New Opens an identity card where you can fill in the data of a new user.
To select a team or create a new team
To introduce a user into an existing team simply press cursor RIGHT. A men
will open with a list of all the available teams will appear, make a selection &
record this selection into the Cosmos memory by pressing ENTER.
To create a new team press ENTER directly after entering this screen & input
your team name.

Cosmos -> PC
In this screen you can import information from the Cosmos to the PC. Decide which informa-
tion you want to import: USER OPTIONS, TRAINING PROGRAMS or SCORES. You can also
clear the memory of the Cosmos computer from this screen.
User Options Transfer user details from the Cosmos to the PC
Training
Program Transfer training programs from the Cosmos to the PC
Scores Transfer your training results & data from the Cosmos to the PC.
This will automatically include the training program & the user details.
On the right is a menu & to the left is a percentage sign which
indicates how much memory is free in the Cosmos computer.
