T r oubleshooting
Should any problems persist aft er you
have made the following checks,
consult your near est Sony dealer .
Gener al
Display is dim, or no indication is
displayed.
• The unit is being used in extr emely high or
low tempera tures or in a place with ex cessive
moisture.
The volume cannot be turned up when
the unit is powered by the built -in
battery .
• When the remaining batt er y level gets low
(when the battery icon is empty), the
maximum volume level is limited to “22. ”
Charge the unit by c onnecting the AC
adaptor (supplied).
The volume level is low in the
“Bluetooth” function or the “ AUDIO IN”
function compar ed with the volume
level when listening to the r adio.
• Adjust the volume on the connecte d device.
The unit enters standby mode
automatically .
• By default, this unit is set to enter standby
mode automatically aft er about 15 minutes
of no operation or audio signal output. See
“ Auto power off ” in “Setting Menu Options”
for details.
Radio
V er y weak or interrup ted sound, or
unsatisfact or y r eception.
• If you are in a building, listen near a window .
• Extend the antenna and adjust the length
and the angle for best re ception.
• If a mobile phone is placed close to the unit,
a loud noise may be heard fr om the unit.
Keep the phone aw ay from the unit.
A desired st ation cannot be r eceived
when a prese t button is pressed.
• Make sur e you have selected the desired
band (DAB or FM) befor e you press the
preset butt on. One station f or each band can
be set to each button.
• Y ou may have held down the prese t button
to which the station w as assigned, c ausing
the station to be r eplaced by a new one.
Assign the desire d station again.
• Prese t buttons cannot be used when the
setting menu is displayed.
• If you have moved to another r egion,
perform the auto tune again. (See “ T o make a
new station list” for details.) Then assign the
new station to a pr eset button.
BLUET OO TH
There is no sound.
• Make sur e that this unit is not too far from
the BLUET OOTH devic e, or that this unit is no t
rec eiving interference fr om a wireless LAN,
another 2.4 GHz wireles s device, or a
microwave oven.
• Check that the BLUET OOTH c onnection was
complet ed properly between this unit and
the BLUET OOTH devic e.
• Perform pairing again. (See “Connecting with
a BLUET OOTH devic e. ”)
• Keep aw ay from metal objects or surfaces.
• Make sur e that the BLUETOO TH function is
activated on the BL UETOO TH device.
The sound skips or the corr espondence
distance is short.
• If a device that gener ates electromagnetic
radiation, such as a wireles s LAN, other
BLUET OOTH devic e(s), or a microw ave oven
is nearby , move away if possible. Or use the
device and the unit away fr om such sources.
• Remove any obstacle between this unit and
the device or move the devic e and the unit
away from the obst acle.
• Loca te this unit and the device as close to
each other as possible.
• Re-position this unit.
• T ry using the BLUETOO TH device in another
position.
A connection canno t be established.
• Depending on the device to be c onnected, it
may requir e some time to start
communica tion.
• Perform pairing again. (See steps 2 and 3 of
“Connecting with a BLUET OO TH device. ”)
• T o listen to music on a devic e that does not
have a BLUET OOTH function, such as a PC
without BLUET OOTH function, connect the
device to the A UDIO IN jack on the unit. (See
“Listening to Music fr om an External Device”
for details.)
• A BLUET OOTH c onnection with two
BLUET OOTH devic es cannot be established at
the same time.
P airing fails.
• Bring the BLUET OOTH devic e closer to the
unit.
• Make sur e that the BLUETOO TH function is
activated on the BL UETOO TH device.
• If the BLUET OOTH c onnection cannot be
established after pairing is c ompleted,
perform step 3 of “Connecting with a
BLUET OOTH devic e. ”
• Delete the model name of this unit fr om the
BLUET OOTH devic e and per form pairing
again. (See steps 2 and 3 of “Connecting with
a BLUET OOTH devic e. ”)
P airing using the NFC function fails.
• T ry pairing manually. (See “Connecting with a
BLUET OOTH devic e. ”) Some NFC-compatible
smartphones may not be paired using the
NFC function of this unit, depending on the
featur es or specifications of the device.
• Relaunch “NFC Easy Connect” and move the
smartphone slowly over the N-Mark.
• Check that the smartphone meets the
compatibility r equirements. (See “C ompatible
smartphones” in “C onnecting by One-touch
(NFC). ”)
If the unit still does not oper ate
properly
T ry pressing RESET on the bottom using a thin
rod. The unit will restart, retaining the
user -configured settings.
If maintenance service is perf ormed
All user -configured settings, such as preset
radio sta tions, the sleep timer , and the clock,
may be initialized.
Please note your settings in c ase you need to
configur e them again.
Messages
No prese t
• No station in the selected band (D AB or FM)
has been preset t o the pressed button.
Service not available
• The selected station or service is curr ently
not broadc asting.
W ARNING
Do not e xpose the appliance to naked
flame sourc es (for example, lighted
candles).
Exc essive sound pressur e from
earphones and headphones can cause
hearing loss.
Pr ecautions
• Operat e the unit only on the power sources
specified in “Specifications. ” For AC
operation, use only the supplied AC adap tor.
Do not use any other type of A C adaptor .
• F ailure to use the supplied AC adapt or may
cause the unit to malfunction, as the polarity
of the plugs of other manufactur ers may be
different.
• When operating the unit on the built -in
battery , it is recommended that you r emove
the AC adapt or from the wall outlet and the
DC IN jack. Disconnect the plug of the
external power sour ce before oper ating the
unit.
• Avoid e xposure to tempera ture extremes,
direct sunlight, moisture, sand, dust or
mechanical shock. Never leave in a car
parked in the sun.
• Do not expose the unit t o strong impact or
ex cessive forc e. A glass material is used for
the display in some models. If the glass chips
or cracks, it may cause injury . In that case,
stop using the unit immediately and mak e
sure not t o touch the damaged parts.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the
unit, disconnect the AC adapt or, and have
the unit checked by a qualified personnel
before oper ating it any further .
• Since a str ong magnet is used for the
speakers, keep personal cr edit cards using
magnetic coding or spring-wound w atches
away from the unit t o prevent possible
damage from the magnetism.
• T o clean the casing, use a soft dry cloth. Do
not use any type of solvent, such as alcohol
or benzine, which may damage the finish.
• Do not opera te the unit with wet hands since
it may cause a short circuit.
• Make sur e not to splash water on the unit.
This unit is not wat erproof.
• When you do not use the unit for a long
time, charge the battery every 6 months.
• Under certain circumst ances, especially when
the air is very dr y , it is not uncommon to
experienc e a discharge of static electricity , or
shock, when your body comes in contact
with another object, in this case the ear buds
touching your ear(s). The energy from this
natural dischar ge is extremely small and is
not emitted by your pr oduct but rather a
natural en vironmental occurrenc e.
• Listening with this unit at high volume may
affect your hearing. For tr affic safety , do no t
use this unit while driving or cycling.

What is RDS?
Introduc ed by the European
Broadc asting Union (EBU) in 1987 , the
Radio Data Syst em (RDS) allows
information such as sta tion names to
be rec eived via the 57 kHz sub-c arrier
signal of FM broadc asts. However , the
availability of RDS data v aries
depending on the area. It ther efore
may not be always be pos sible to
rec eive RDS information.
Using the RDS functions
The radio supports the following RDS
functions.

Notes
• The RDS functions will not be activat ed if the
FM station being re ceived is not transmitting
RDS data. They may also not work properly in
areas wher e RDS transmissions are in the
experimental stage .
• If the radio signal being r eceived is weak, it
may take time t o receive the RDS data.

Bluetoo th standby
When the BLUET OO TH standby mode
is set to “On, ” the unit enters waiting
mode for a BLUET OO TH connection
even when the unit is in standby
mode. When making a BLUET OO TH
connection fr om a BLUET OOTH devic e,
the unit turns on automatic ally .
Tips
• Set the BLUET OOTH standby mode t o “Off” t o
reduc e the power consumption when the
unit is in standby mode.
• The power indicator lights up in umber while
the unit is in standby mode, and when the
BLUET OOTH standby mode is turned on.
Note
If the AC adapt or is unplugged, the BLUET OO TH
standby mode is disabled.
FM tune mode
Select the tuning mode for FM.
By station list: Y ou can select a
desired st ation from the list of FM
stations stor ed by auto tune.
Manual tune: Y ou can manually tune
to the desir ed FM frequency in 0. 05
MHz steps. T urn the TUNE dial to select
the frequency .
Scan tuning in “Manual tune” mode
Press AUTO TUNE ( SCAN) t o start scanning FM
stations.
If a rec eivable station is found, “[ENTER]:Select”
appears on the display . Press ENTER to r eceive
the station. (If you do not press ENTER within 3
seconds, the search will r estart.)
Tip
T o change the scanning dir ection, turn the
TUNE dial clockwise or counter clockwise.
On timer
See “Setting the On Timer . ”
Sound
Y ou can adjust the sound level.
T r eble: Adjusts the level of high-
pitched sound.
Bass: Adjusts the level of low-pitched
sound.
Time
Set time: “ Auto (DAB)” is set by
default. This enables the clock to
synchroniz e with the DAB data being
rec eived. Select “ Time setting” to se t
the clock manually .
12H/24H: Select the clock display
mode, 12-hour clock or 24-hour clock.
Note
The clock will be reset if the A C adaptor is
unplugged and the built-in ba tter y is
complet ely exhausted.
