when replacing the insulating glass in-
sert and make sure that no other person
is in the vicinity. Unscrew the bottom of
the thermal carafe by turning it counter-
clockwise and remove the glass insert.
Place the rubber seal on the edge of the
new insulation glass insert, and then
push the insert into the housing and
screw onto the bottom by turning clock-
wise. The dowel of the glass flask is ex-
tremely sensitive, it may not be damaged.
Stainless-steel thermal jug
EK 99 (only for KM 99)
The double-walled stainless-steel con-
tainer is absolutely fracture-proof.
Nevertheless, it should be protected
from mechanical use.
Clean the jug regularly. If some iron par-
ticles from water stick on the stainless-steel
surface, some holes might appear on it.
Therefore, always remove these residues
immediately with a stainless-steel clea-
ning agent.
Automatic cut-out
After putting the appliance into operation,
an automatic cut-out ensures that the
appliance does not overheat. The ap-
pliance switches off only when the water
reservoir is empty. A prior switch-off is
only possible by pulling the plug out.
This might be necessary if the appliance
was switched on without water. Prior to
immediate re-use, it is essential to wait
some minutes for cooling down.
Putting into operation
Prior to first use and after the appliance
has not been used for a long time,
operate the appliance twice with maxi-
mum water content and without coffee
powder. Then rinse the filter and the jug
with hot water. Make sure that the filter is
witin the filter holder by exerting light
pressure.
Preparing coffee
Fill in cold water into the water container.
The water level indication shows the
number of brewed cups with 125 ml of
coffee each. Swivel the filter holder for-
wards and insert a paper filter 1 x 4 with
the filter folder along the embossed line.
Fill in the necessary quantity of coffee.
Use approximately 5-7 grams of medi-
um fine ground coffee per cup or accor-
ding to personal preference.
Put the thermal jug with the closed
brewing lid under the filter. Connect
plug with a safety socket and switch on.
The operation lamp shows the start of
the brewing process. After the end of
the flow, the appliance switches off
automatically, the control lamp goes
out. After detaching the jug, the non-
drip system in the filter avoids that the
coffee drips.
Before making new coffee, the appliance
has to cool down for some minutes.
Soluble coffee can be used in the filter
without paper.
Prepare tea by hanging the tea bags
into the jug. Thereby, the filter is to be
placed into the filter holder.
Cleaning and main-
tenance
Disconnect the appliance from the
socket and let the coffeemaker cool
down. Never immerse the appliance and
the thermal jug in water. Use a damp
cloth with washing-up liquid only and
rub dry afterwards.
The filter can be cleaned under running
water or in a dishwasher. Rinse the jug
with warm water only after every use. It
must not be put into a dishwasher.
In case that after some time there is a lay-
er inside the thermal jug, you can use a pill
suitable for cleaning dentures to get it off.
Fill in water plus the pill, and leave it for
some hours. Then rinse it several times.
Do not use any scouring and abrasive
agents.
Decalcification
Calcium deposits result in energy losses
and reduce the service life of the appli-
ance. It switches off early, if the calcium
coating is too thick. It is then difficult to
remove. Please decalcify the appliance
therefore routinely; however, always
after an essentially extended brewing
period or increased noise development.
The following information is a guideline
that refers to daily household use.
Hardness Hardness Decalcifi
range cation
intervals
1 soft 0-7° dH every 6
months
2 medium >7-14° dH every 3
months
3 hard >14-21° dH every 6
weeks
4 very hard >21° dH monthly
1° dH corresponds to aprox. 0.18 mmol/l

You can obtain information concerning
the hardness range in your residential
area from the responsible water plant or
the community administration.
We recommend using durgol
®
univer-
sal. However, it is very effective and
safe for materials without any additional
reaction period.
You may obtain it where you bought the
appliance; directly from a select dealer
or you can order it directly from petra-
electric.
It must be removed prior to decalcifica-
tion in appliances with an anti-chlorine
filter. Insert the paper filter and place the
carafe into the machine. Fill 1-2 cups of
durgol
®
universal into the water tank,
fill up to the max mark and switch on the
appliance. Then run a complete tank
full of tap water through for rinsing.
Never use vinegar or vinegar essence,
since materials in the appliance can be
damaged by this.
When using decalcifiers based on citric
acid, settlements can form during decal-
cification, which block the calcium coat-
ing or plug up the lines in the appliance.
In addition, the decalcification using cit-
ric acid proceeds too slowly – a com-
plete decalcification can therefore not
be guaranteed.
Caution, warranty compensation does
not exist for damages that occur due to
non-compliance.
