9 Basic Opera tion
Y our phone pro vides the conv enience of accessing
four separa te telephone lines, each having its o wn
phone number . It can have up t o ten telephones or
cor dless handsets sharing multiple lines. Each station
is inter connected to all others b y an intercom.
9. 1 Making Calls with the Handset
1. Press c and the phone aut omatically selects the
priority line. If the priority line is in use, it will
select the next open line or y ou may select a line
by pr essing LINE key .
2. W ait for the dial tone, then dial a phone number .

9.2 Making Calls with the Speakerphone
1. Press c onc e to open a line, and again to use the
speakerphone. If the priority line is in use , it will

9.3 Making Calls with the Optional
Headset
1. Connect the headset plug into the headset jack
on the right side of the handset.
2. Adjust the headset so the micr ophone is
appro ximately 2 to 3 inches a way from
your mouth.

priority line. If the priority line is in use, it will
select the next open line or y ou may select a line
by pr essing LINE key .
4. W ait for the dial tone, then dial a phone number .

If the headset is not connected ( or if not completely
inserted into headset jack), pressing c will ent er the
receiv er talk mode.
Although this device will ac cept a variety of standard
2.5mm telephone headsets, Motorola does not
guarantee c ompatibility with third party devices.

9.4 Pre-Dialing
1. Before pr essing c , enter the telephone number on
the cor dless handset dial pad. The number will
show in the displa y .
2. Press c t o take a line and the number will
automatically be dialed.
9.5 Answ ering Calls
When rec eiving an incoming call,
1. Press c . If y ou wish to answ er on speakerphone,

9.6 Mute
If you ar e on an active call and do not wish the other
party to hear y ou, use the Mute feature . Y ou will still,
how ever , be able to hear them.
1. Press MUTE t o toggle the feature . The screen will

9.7 Inserting a Pause in the Dialing
Sequence
Press j twic e to insert a delay in dialing sequence
when a pause is needed to wait f or a dial tone (for
ex ample, after you dial 9 f or an outside line, or to
wait for a c omputer access t one). Each pause counts
as one digit in the dialing sequence, and is sho wn as
P
in the display .
9.8 Do Not Disturb (DND )
This featur e will disable your telephone’ s ringer for
a set period of time to pr event inc oming calls from
interrupting. When an inc oming call or intercom call
occurs, the status indica tors will light up but the
phone will not ring.
1. Press DND when the phone is in idle mode .
2. Using the up and down of the na vigation
button, choose the dur ation you wish to r emain
undisturbed. Y ou may select as short as
15 minutes or as long as 2 4 hours. After that time
expir es, the phone will automatically turn o the
DND featur e.
3. Pr ess Select softkey t o enable DND for your
chosen duration. A DND timer will appear on
the top of the display indica ting how much time
remains befor e the DND feature is automa tically
turned o . DND can be cancelled manually at any
time by pr essing DND again.
9.9 Line Privacy
This featur e, when enabled, will prev ent other
phones on the same sys tem from acc essing the line
used by y our active call.

10 Hold
10. 1 Placing a Call on Hold
When on an activ e call, press HOLD to put the line
in use on hold. The line indicator f or the held line will
flash red on each phone on the s ystem. The caller
will hear either your Music on Hold selection or a
reminder beep ( set in Motorola ML1000 Base menu),
letting them know the call is still c onnected.
10.2 Releasing a Call from Hold
Once a call is placed on hold, it can be r eleased from
hold on any phone on the sy stem that has acc ess
to that phone line. Pr ess HOLD or LINE and enter
the corr esponding line number using the dial pad to
release that line’ s call from hold. The call will no w
be active .
11 T ransferring and Conf erencing
11. 1 T ransferring a Call t o Another Station
1. While on an activ e call, press TRANSFER .
2. A list of the e xtensions on your sy stem will
appear on the display . Using the up and down
of the navigation butt on, choose the destination
ext ension for your call and pr ess

17 T roubleshooting
No dial tone
• Check or repeat ins tallation steps.
Make sur e the base power c ord is connected t o a
working electrical outlet.
Make sur e the telephone line cords ar e not
damaged and are c onnected to the phone and
the wall jack.
• Disconnect the base station fr om the wall jack
and connect another phone to the same jack.
If there is no dial t one in the second phone, the
problem might be y our wiring or local service.
• The handset may be out of r ange of the base.
Mov e closer to the base.
• Make sur e the battery is properly char ged (for
14 hours).
Dial tone is ok, but can’t dial out
• Make sur e the base station is set to the corr ect
dial mode.
Phone does not ring
• Make sur e the phone is properly regist ered with
the Motor ola ML1000 base.

• Make sur e the Do Not Disturb feature is
not activat ed.

Interc om does not function correctly
• Make sur e the phone is properly regist ered with
the Motor ola ML1000 base.

Unit locks up and no communication

• Unplug the pow er adaptor from the electrical
outlet and the bottom of the base. Remo ve
the handset battery . W ait for 30 seconds and
plug the pow er adaptor back into the base and
electrical outlet. Reconnect the batt ery and
charge for 14 hours.
Out Of Range

working electrical outlet.
Battery
If you e xperience any of the follo wing problems,
ev en after rechar ging the battery , you may need to
replac e the battery pack:
• Short talk time.
• Poor sound quality .

Causes of poor reception
• Aluminum siding.
• Foil backing on insulation.
• Heating ducts and other metal construction that
can shield radio signals.
• Y ou’re t oo close to appliances such as
micro wav es, stov es, computers, etc.
• Atmospheric c onditions, such as strong storms.
• Base is installed in the basement or low er floor of
the house.
• Base is plugged into A C outlet with other
electronic de vices.
• Baby monit or is using the same frequency .
• Handset battery is lo w .
• Make sur e the hook switch pops up when the
handset is lifted.
• Y ou’re out of r ange of the base.
• The 5 AA A batteries in the base station need
replacing or ar e improperly installed or not
installed at all.
18 Gener al information
Cleaning
• Clean the phone with a damp (not wet) cloth, or
an anti-static wipe.
• Nev er use household polish as this will damage
the product. Ne ver use a dry cloth as this may
cause static shock.
Environmental
• Do not expose t o direct sunlight.
• The phone may bec ome warm when the
batteries ar e being charged or during prolonged
periods of use. This is normal. Ho wev er , we
rec ommend that to av oid damage, do not place
the product on antique / v eneered wood.
• Do not place y our product on carpets or other
surfaces which gener ate fibres, or plac e it in
locations pre venting the free flo w of air ov er
its surfaces.
• Do not submerge an y part of your product

Exclusions
Normal W ear and T ear . Periodic maintenance, r epair
and replac ement of parts due to normal wear and
tear ar e excluded fr om cov erage.
Batteries. Only batt eries whose fully charged
capacity falls belo w 80% of their rated capacity and
batteries that leak ar e cov ered by this
limited warr anty .
Abuse & Misuse. Defects or damage that r esult from:
(a) improper operation, s torage, misuse or abuse,
accident or neglect, such as phy sical damage
(cr acks, scrat ches, etc.) to the surface of the
product r esulting from misuse;
(b) contact with liquid, wa ter , rain, extr eme
humidity or heavy perspir ation, sand, dirt or
the like, e xtreme heat, or food;
(c ) use of the Products or Ac cessories for
commer cial purposes or subjecting the
Product or A ccessory to abnormal usage or
conditions; or
(d) other acts which are not the f ault of Motorola
or MZ GW are e xcluded from c over age.
Use of Non-Motorola br anded Products and
Ac cessories. Defects or damage that result fr om the
use of Non-Motor ola branded or certified Products
or Ac cessories or other peripheral equipment ar e
ex cluded from co ver age.
Unauthorized Service or Modification. Def ects or
damages resulting fr om service, testing, adjustment,
installation, maintenanc e, alteration, or modification
in any wa y by someone other than Motor ola, MZGW
or its authorized service c enters, are e xcluded
from c over age.
Altered Pr oducts. Products or Ac cessories with:
(a) serial numbers or date tags that hav e been
remo ved, alter ed or obliterat ed;
(b) brok en seals or that show evidenc e of
tampering;
(c ) mismatched board serial numbers; or
(d) nonconforming or non-Mot orola branded
housings, or parts, are e xcluded fr om
co verage .
Communication Services. Def ects, damages, or
the failur e of Products or Acc essories due to any
communication service or signal y ou may subscribe
to or use with the Pr oducts or Accessories is
ex cluded from co ver age.

Products or A ccessories at y our expense and risk, to
a MZ GW Authorized Repair Cent er .
T o obtain service, you mus t include:
(a) the Product or Ac cessory;
(b) the original proof of pur chase (receipt) which
includes the date, plac e and seller of the
Product;
(c ) if a warranty car d was included in your bo x, a
completed w arranty card sho wing the serial
number of the Product;
(d) a written description of the pr oblem; and,
most importantly;
(e ) your addr ess and telephone number .
