The camel
Within the family of the camels there are Dromedaries which have
one hump, and the camels which have two humps.
Both species have a soft and thick fleece. They are fairly unde-
manding herbivores as they eat leaves, grass and herbs but also
like thorny plants. The humps are energy tanks: on long journeys
through the desert these animals can survive for weeks on very
little food.
Elephantastic!
A camel can drink up to 135 liters in 10 minutes! Once well
watered it can carry on for more than a week without drinking.
The nostrils of the camel can close shut, which is very practical in
the middle of a sandstorm.
The cat All domestic cats derive from the African dun cat. Cats in the open
countryside are carnivores and feed mainly on mice.
Cats can see far better than the human beings, particularly at
night. Their hearing is also far superior to ours. Cats can even per-
ceive ultrasound tunes.
Elephantastic!
Their hearing is so good that even blind cats can orientate
themselves well. A cat can hear a mouse from up to 60-70 feet
(20m).
The cock The cock is a male domestic chicken.
There are different species of chickens but all derive from the so
called “Bancavia chicken”.
Chickens eat grains, worms and insects.
The eyes of chickens are immovable, so they have to move their
head rapidly in order to perceive their surroundings.
Elephantastic!
Cocks crow in order to defend their territory and when doing so
they make their comb swell.
A chicken can lay 200 to 300 eggs per year!

Variation for 2 players
Two players take one animal of each animal pair and put them behind
their screen. Aim of the game is to recognize as many animals as
possible.
Have a look at the types of action shown on the dice and decide whether
to play with the yellow or the red die.
Lisa rolls the die, looks at the action, chooses an animal and carries out
the action. It’s Tom’s task to guess which animal is meant.
Both players hide the chosen animal in their fist, extend it towards the
center, open them and compare the animals.
• If both players have the same animal in their hand, they can put it
into the bottom of the box.
• If the players have different animals, both animals are placed in the
center of the table.
The game ends when both players are left with only four animals behind
their screen.
The number of animals in the center of the table shows how good you
were at playing.
0 animal = elephantastic
2 - 8 animals = sow good
10 - 16 animals = monkey prattle
18 - 24 animals = mousey
