Congratulations!
By purchasing the
HAC5 you have acquired an electronic multifunctional sports computer with the
highest level of precision and newest digital transmission technology.
The HAC5 is waterproof up to 30 metres and convinces through his high durability.
It’s special feature: The transfer from the transmitters to the device takes place digitally, which means
the transfer is extremely safe from disturbances. You can, for example, use the
HAC5 on two diffe-
rent bikes and have the data shown separately for each bike.
The HAC5 can, amongst other things, also show you the cadence and the heart rate without any
wires.
The
HAC5 is also fitted with the new
CICLO
Zone® , which, on the basis of the users personal data
and his/her daily fitness, calculates the ideal heart ratezone for optimum training (see also chapter
8.6).
The
HAC5 can show three functions at once in its display. And if that isn’t enough for you,
you can use the function ‚autoscroll‘ in the lower display. With this the functions in the lower
display are changing automatically every three seconds, so this disposes of the manual swit-
ching between the functions in the lower display.
In order to use all functions of the
HAC5 in the correct way, please read through this operating ma-
nual carefully.

1. General Information
Attention: whoever carries out sport should have a general medical check up on his/her general state
of health – especially beginners, persons older than 35 years of age and anyone who has suffered from
illnesses or injuries in the past. It is recommended that a doctor be consulted in any case in the pre
-
sence of risk factors, such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol values, diabetes, lack of
exercise and excess weight.
Pacemaker wearers should consult their doctor before using any heart rate measuring
device!
In order for the HAC5 to be able to display heart rate, speed and cadence, the according
transmitters have to be initialized once. See the exemplifies initialization in chapter 5.2.
To set up time, date etc. see the exemplifies setup in chapter 5.1.

Attention!
To save energy, the HAC5 turns off automatically at night, meaning the display turns off at
12 p.m. and only lights up again after pressing any button.
All functions active at the time of shut-off keep going internally despite the display turned
down.
2. Operational Setup
2.1 Attaching the HAC5 to the wrist band and the handlebar bracket
To take the HAC5 out of the wrist band or the handlebar holder, turn it 90° to the left, then remove.
To insert into the wrist band or handlebar bracket, insert at a 90° angle to the left, then turn to right
until it engages.
2.2 Inserting the batteries
Inserting the battery into the HAC5:
The HAC5 is delivered with battery inserted. Just press any button to start.
(As the HAC5 uses a high tech display with Dot-Matrix, the battery consumption is – like in many other
high tech devices – more extensive than in our other CicloSport computers.
Therefore two extra batteries are added).
Inserting the battery into transmitter belt, speed- and cadence transmitter:
Open the battery cap with the aid of a coin (turn to left). Insert battery type CR2032 with the plus
pole facing up and close the cap again.
2.3 Setup / Initialization
Because of the new digital transmission technique, all transmitters have to be initialized prior to first
use. We therefore recommend that you first conduct all necessary initializations (and, if required,
enter all required data) before attaching the parts to the bike. In chapter 5 you will find a step-by-step
setup as well for the initializations as for setup of time and date.
2.4 Installing
Installing the handlebar bracket:
The handlebar mounting can also be installed on a stem. To do this the top section
of the handlebar mounting must be removed from the bottom section. To make
it easier to remove the top section carefully push the sides of the bottom section
upwards slightly.
Then turn both parts through 9 and assemble them again until the snap-on
mounting engages.
Remove the backing foil from the underside of the handlebar mounting, place the
handlebar mounting in the required position on the handlebar (or on the stem) and
press it down slightly. Secure it with the O ring or with the cable ties.
• Installing the speed transmitter:
Attach the speed transmitter at the fork or the rear construction with the aid of the cable ties (the
printed side of the transmitter with the marking must point to the spokes).
Mount the magnet to a spoke directly opposite the marking on the transmitter.
Do not over tighten the fixing screw on the magnet. Adjust transmitter in such a way that the
distance between transmitter and magnet does not exceed 3 millimetres.
• Installing the cadence transmitter:
Attach the cadence transmitter to a strut opposite the pedal crank with the aid of the cable ties
(the printed side of the transmitter with the marking must point to the crank).
Mount the magnet on the pedal crank directly opposite the transmitter with the help of the cable
tie, so that the magnet points exactly to the marking on the transmitter. Adjust transmitter in such
a way that the distance between transmitter and magnet does not exceed 3 millimetres.

2.5 Putting on the breast belt
Hang the transmitter belt in the elastic breast belt and then put the breast belt around your (naked)
upper torso. The transmitter (plastic part with inscription) should be placed above the middle of your
upper stomach region, slightly below the breast and the inscription on the transmitter (when seen from
the front) must be legible (pictured).
Pull the belt tight so that it always is in contact with your body when moving and so that it can not slip.
If the breast belt is not long enough, a longer breast belt can be acquired from your local bicycle dea-
ler.
If your skin is too cold or too dry, the electrical contact between the skin and the electrodes can be so
minimal that an accurate measurement is not possible. It often helps to wet the electrodes and the skin
where they are to be attached with your finger (do not wet the transmitter but only the rubber parts on
the left and on the right). If this doesn’t help, one should train until they start sweating. You will get the
best contact by means of a special electrode-gel (available at your local pharmacy).

3. Using the buttons special function of the buttons
3.1 Using the buttons
The display if the
HAC5 is separated into 3 areas: an upper, a middle and a lower. Each area dis-
plays one function, so that there are three functions displayed simultaneously at all times. This means
that the possible functions can be combined to personal taste.
The buttons are termed as follows in the manual:
Upper Left button: UL-button
Upper Middle button: UM-button
Upper Right button: UR-button
Middle Right button: MR-button
Lower Left button: LL-button
Lower Right button: LR-button
For the functions of the upper area use the UL- and UR-buttons,
for the middle section the MR-button
and for the lower display the LL- and LR-buttons.
The following applies:
The buttons on the right side access the main functions (UR-, MR- and LR-buttons).
The sub-functions of the functions in the upper and lower display are accessed through the depen-
ding button on the left side (UL- and LL-buttons).
The stopwatch and the countdown are started, stopped and paused by shortly pressing the UM-
button and reset by pressing the UM-button for three seconds (this also deletes all split- and lap times).
Pressing long means at least between 3 and 6 seconds (as stated)
Pressing shortly means pressing for approximately 1 second,
either of one or the other button
Every press of the button makes a short sound, this sound can be turned off in the advanced set-
tings.
3.2 Special button functions in normal mode

3.3 Special button functions in setting mode
In the setting mode, the according function/setting is always chosen and/or stored by short pressing
of the
MR-button.
With the UR- and LR-buttons you can choose between different settings or change the settings
(UR-button counts upward,
LR-button counts downwards, longer pressing moves the numbers
faster).
For the settings themselves, the following applies:
UL- and UR-button simultaneously
sets the displayed value to its maximum.
UR- and LR-button simultaneously
resets the displayed value to its default.
LL- and LR button simultaneously
resets the displayed value to its minimum.
The setting mode can be quit prematurely at any time by pressing the MR-button for three seconds.
Attention: when you quit the setting mode in this way, the last displayed value is not automatically
stored, to store simply press the MR-button shortly.

4. Usage
4.1 Profiles
The
HAC5 offers the possibility to set five different profiles, these are termed in the following as
Bike 1, Bike 2, RDS, Alpine
and Run.
Every profile allows separate settings each, the different functions can be chosen separately for each
profile (and therefore what is displayed).
So if you feel no need for example to display the altitude measurements while running (and thus all
connected functions like slope, performance etc), you can turn off this function under the profile
Run. If the profile Run is activated afterwards, these displays are not shown when going through the
functions.
This means that the number of the possible displayed functions can be determined individually for
each profile and displays not needed can be turned off.
In addition to these profiles there are two sub-profiles, HR-Intv (heart rate-interval) and CAD-Intv.
These can be turned on in addition, meaning that if you choose Bike 1, for example, you can pick the
CAD interval for this setting.
Alpine is the default setting. To switch or pick a profile simply press the two right buttons (UR- and
LR-button) simultaneously.
The profile menu now appears on the display (by pressing the UR- or LR-button all menu points can
be accessed one by one).
Choose the desired profile with the UR-/LR-button and confirm
by shortly pressing the MR-button.
If HR-Intv (heart rate-interval) or CAD-Intv (cadence-interval) is selected, the interval is valid for the
previously chosen profile (example: HAC5 is in profile bike 1. If CAD-intv is selected, then the ca-
dence-interval is active for bike 1).
To check which profile is active at the moment and/or begin transmitter search (which searches for
all transmitters active in the mode concerned), press LL for three seconds.
The display shows the active profile for 10 seconds. During this time, the automatic transmitter
search runs in the background.
4.2 Baro Mode/Alti Mode
The HAC5 is able to switch automatically between measuring the altitude and the barometer. This can
also be switched manually: to do so shortly press UR- and LR-buttons simultaneously in the profile
selection menu, then choose the desired mode with the UR-/LR-button.
Then confirm by shortly pressing the MR-button.
If the altitude doesn’t change for more than 350 metres per hour in the alti mode – for example during
a pause – then the HAC5 automatically switches to the baro mode. The mountain symbol disappears
and the weather symbol appears instead on the display.
The current altitude is saved. Through this altitude automatism, the altitude does not have to be re-
adjusted if air pressure changes occur (during the night or a break for example). If you move up and
down at short intervals again, the HAC5 switches back to the alti mode.
If the baro mode (barometre-mode) is selected, or the alti mode (altitude mode) selected or automati-
cally activated, then the HAC5 switches to that mode in the current setting, this may cause some
functions to not be shown although they are allowed in the profile.
(The baro mode, for instance, does not allow a display of altitude and therefore no display of data ba-
sed on altitude).
4.3 Transmitter search – digital system
In order for the HAC5 to display speed or heart rate or similar, the according transmitter has to be
found first.
The search begins automatically when a recording is started (UL- and LL-buttons pressed simultane-
ously for three seconds), and manually by pressing the LL-button for three seconds (in both cases, the
active profile is shown for 10 seconds).
During this display all transmitters are searched for which are active in this profile. Should no or not all
transmitters be found during this time, then this is displayed when selected, for example: SPD: no TX,
meaning that for the speed (= spd) display there were no transmitters (= tx) found.

In this case, the transmitter search must be started again (by pressing the LL button for three
seconds).
If the display shows “Speed Bike2”, for example, this means that the speed transmitter for bike 2 is
activated (for example by turning the wheel) and was found.

5. Examples
Through the selection process, the settings of the HAC5 are relatively easy to do (as most displays are
self-explaining). Thus we are showing you two short examples:
5.1 First settings (for example time, date)
Press
MR-button three seconds to enter the main setting mode.
By pressing shortly the
LR-/UR-button a few times in a row choose the mode “basic set” (= basic
settings, appears in the dark area on the middle display),
confirm by shortly pressing the
MR-button.
Select “set time” with the LR-/UR-button,
confirm with the MR-button.
Select “set clock” with the LR-/UR-button,
confirm with the MR-button.
The current time is now flashing on the upper display, the lower shows the second time zone.
The time can be set with the LR-/UR-button,
confirm with the MR-button.
After this the time (only the hours can be adjusted) of the second time zone flashes on the lower display
and can be set with the LR-/UR-button.
Confirm with MR-button, “set clock” appears again on the display.
Select “set date” with the LR-/UR-button,
confirm with the MR-button.
The year flashes on the upper display and can be adjusted with the LR-/UR-button,
confirm with the MR-button, now the month flashes on the lower display.
Also set with LR-/UR-buttons and confirm with MR-button.
Now the day flashes.
Set to the right number with the LR-/UR-button
and confirm with the MR-button.

And confirm with the MR-button to get back to the mode “basic settings”.
Now you can make further personal adjustments, like:
“Set altitude”: here the current altitude/air pressure can be set.
“Set units”: here the measuring units – kilometres or miles for distance, mbar or inhg for air pressure
etc. – can be determined.
“Set perso.”: this is where the personal data like date of birth, weight, sex, heart frequency-limits and
countdowns are entered, the
CICLO
Zone® can also be calculated and totals for burning calories and
burning fat determined.
“Set totals.”: here, total sums (like total kilometres, total time of tour etc.) can be preset or erased for
the current profile.
By pressing the
MR-button for three seconds, the setting mode can be left at any time.
5.2 Initializing the transmitters
In order for the HAC5 to be able to show heart rate, speed and cadence, the concerning transmitters
have to be initialized first.
Please do as follows:
Put on the transmitter belt and do the following:
Press the

Select “Prof.Bike” with the
LR-button (the selected line has a dark background)
Confirm with the

Now activate the speed transmitter (pick it up and gently knock the spoke magnet against the marking
of the transmitter a couple of times, this turns on the transmitter and it will give a signal.
Attention: The display of the HAC5 remains unchanged during the activation.
Confirm with MR-button (please confirm only after activating the transmitter)
Display will shortly show a percentage and returns back to selection mode after successful initialization
(display shows “speed” marked).

If the initialization is not successful, the percentage runs up to 100 % and the HAC5 shows “Iniscan
Error retry cancel“ afterwards.
Activate transmitter once again after this and start initialization once again by selecting “retry” (LR-

If you have already put on the breast strap, it should already be activated. If not, activate it “manually“:

Press
MR-button for three seconds to leave the settings mode.
Through the settings in the “Bike1“ profile, this profile is already automatically “selected“, meaning the
display now shows the normal function mode of the “Bike1“ profile.
Now you can install the transmitters, the HAC5 is ready for use in terms of Initialization.
You can of course enter all the other data like wheel circumference, weight, measurements etc. first, to
do so follow the structure of the above example and enter the data in the setting mode concerned.
Important: Altogether, two speed transmitters, two cadence transmitters, one RDS II and one heart
rate transmitter can be initialized.
That means if you have already initialized the heart rate transmitter for “Bike1“, you only have to turn
on this function in the other profiles (“on“), you don’t have to initialize again (select “no“ for “Iniscan HR“
and then confirm with the MR-button).
An already initialized speed- or cadence transmitter for “Bike1cannot be initialized for “Bike2“. Only if
another transmitter was initialized for “Bike1“ (or an Initialization was made without transmitter, which
then breaks off with “error“) can the original transmitter be initialized for “Bike2“.

6. Main setting mode
By pressing the MR-button for 3 sec. the main setting mode will be selected. By pressing the MR-
button again for 3 sec. the setting mode can be left from any area (except during the PC transmission,
display “PC-Connect“).
Note: When leaving the main setting mode with
MR-Button for 3 sec. the last displayed choice will not
be saved (saving only by pressing the MR-button shortly).
The specific options can be accessed by shortly pressing the LR-/UR-button
and be selected by shortly pressing the
MR-button.
The desired setting can be selected by the
LR-/UR-button
and be confirmed with the MR-button.
6.1 Short menu (Topical)
Whereas most settings have to be set only once, there are some values which have to/should be
adjusted constantly. These values can be selected and modified and set in the short menu.
Attention: during recording settings can only be changed in the short menu.
By accessing normal setting mode (via MR-button 3 sec.) and selecting a profile, recording will be
turned off automatically.
The short menu includes the following values/functions
(dependent on whether the functions have been activated in the particular profiles):
Options: LR-/UR-button
Saving and back: MR-button
Cancel: Push MR-button 3 sec.
6.2 Profile Bike and profiles RDS, ALPIN, RUN
Here first select the desired profile and then you can switch on or off the desired functions for the parti-
cular profile and furthermore the particular transmitters can be initialized.
Settings for the profiles
Since the settings for the profiles repeat themselves, all possible settings are listed, it depends on the
particular profile if they appear.WEIGHT
Here you can enter the material’s weight (e.g. bicycle, backpack etc.).
Parameters: Min: 0 kg
Max: 100 kg
Standard: 10 kg
Select with MR-button,
the desired weight can then be set with the LR-/UR-button.
By pressing the MR-button again the set value will be saved and the setting menu appears again.

SPD
Here the function “speed measurement“ can be switched on and off.

Upon switching on the speed measurement, the display for initializing appears after pressing the
MR-
button (for saving the setting).
When the speed transmitter has not been initialized yet, the initialization can now be started here. It is

marking on the transmitter with the circle magnet or (in case it has already been installed) by turning the
wheel a few times (so the magnet will pass the transmitter activating it).

The display now shows briefly a percentage number and will go back after successful initialization to the
options menu (display shows “Speed“ highlighted).
If the initialization is not successful, the percentage number goes to 100% and the

Then activate the transmitter again and restart the initialization with “retry(select with LR-button and
confirm with
MR-button). With “cancel“ (select with LR-button and confirm with MR-button) the initiali-
zation function can be left (HAC5 shows the options menu again).
Cadence
Here the function “pedal frequency measurement“ can be switched on or off.
Select with
MR-button,
then the pedal frequency measurement can be switched on or off with the UR-/LR-button.
If the pedal frequency measurement is switched on, the display for initialization appears on the display
after pressing the
MR-button (for saving the setting).
When the pedal frequency transmitter has not been initialized yet, the initialization can be started now.

System – optionally available at your dealer).

Before initializing the RDS II must be switched on to transmit a signal which the HAC5 can receive.

When the heart rate transmitter has not been initialized yet, the initialization can be started now. It is
important that first the speed transmitter will be activated: this happens by wearing the belt or by short
and simultaneous rubbing (preferably with the thumb) on the electrodes (corrugated rubber parts left
and right from the hard transmitting device on the chest belt).
By shortly pressing the

The display now shows briefly a percentage number and will go back after successful initialization to the
options menu (display shows ”HEART“ highlighted).
If the initialization is not successful, the percentage number goes to 100% and the
HAC5 will display
“Iniscan Error“.
Then activate the transmitter again and start the initialization again with “retry“ (select with
LR-button

Ski SPD
Here the speed measurement during skiing and snowboarding can be switched on or off.
The speed will be measured accordingly to the current decline (height difference).

By pressing the MR-button again the set value will be saved and the setting menu reappears.
Note: Upon switching on e.g. the ski speed measurement in one profile and RDS at the same time, the
ski speed measurement will be internally switched off (according to the height difference) and the speed
will be measured with RDS II.
Altimeter
Here the function “altimetry“ can be switched on or off.
Select with
MR-button,
the altimetry can then be switched on or off with the UR-/LR-button.
By pressing the MR-button again the set value will be saved and the setting menu reappears.
Beeper
The beep sounds and the acoustic heart rate alarm can here be switched on or off.
If the heart rate alarm has been switched on, the alarm symbol will appear to the left in the display.

6.5 Basic settings
Basic settings can be made here which apply to all profiles.
6.5.1 Set altitude
After having selected this function the current altitude is indicated in the upper display and the cur
-
rent air pressure (reduced to sea level) in the lower display. The upper value (the altitude indication) is
flashing.
The current altitude can be set now with the UR-/LR-buttons.
Range: -500m – 9000m
Pressure
If you wish to set the air pressure, too, shortly press the UL- and the LL-button simultaneously. Then
the air pressure is starting to flash in the lower display and can be set with the
UR-/LR-button.
The values can be confirmed and stored with the
MR-button.
6.5.2 Set units
The units of measurement kilometres or miles for the measurement of the distance, hpa or Inhg for
the measurement of the air pressure – can be set here.
Set with the MR-button.
Unit pressure
The unit of measurement for the air pressure can be selected here: hpa or inhg.
Unit distance
The unit of measurement for the distance indication can be selected here: kilometres or miles.
Unit speed
The unit of measurement for the speed indication can be selected here (dependent on the previous
setting): either km/h (kilometres per hour) or min/km (minutes per kilometre) or mi/h (miles per hour) or
min/mi (minutes per mile).
Unit temperature
The unit of measurement for the temperature indication can be selected here: °C (Celsius) or
°F (Fahrenheit).
Unit time

7. Functions
In this chapter all possible indications are explained.
Whether these indications really appear, depends on whether or not they are switched on in the mo-
mentary current profile.
Some functions only appear in the altimeter mode , some only in the barometer mode .
This is indicated through an appropriate symbol in the single functions.
The functions in the upper display (chapter 5.1) can be called up with the
UR-button, the correspon-
ding sub-functions of the particular functions can be called up with the
UL-button.
The functions in the lower display (chapter 5.3) can be called up with the LR-button, the corresponding
sub-functions of the particular functions can be called up with the LL-button.
The functions in the medium display (chapter 5.2) can be called up by short pressing of the
MR-button.
There are no sub-functions of these functions.
Important: In order that the HAC5 calculates and displays all values (and saves them for the PC eva-
luation), a recording needs to be started (see also chapter 8.1). This happens by simultaneous pressing
of both left buttons for 3 seconds (the present profile is indicated in the display for 10 seconds and the
”-symbol flashes on top of the display as a sign for a running recording).
To stop the recording (at the end of the training) press both left buttons again simultaneously for
3 seconds (“
” stops flashing).
All minimum, maximum and average values (display indication: MIN/MA/AV) and also all daily values
(DAY) are only calculated when a recording was started.
This means: when the recording is not started during a training, the values of the last saved tour are
indicated in the above-mentioned displays, not of the present tour.
The sub-functions shift back automatically into the normal operational mode after 10 seconds.
7.1 Function indications of the upper display
Heartrate
Indicates the current heart rate.
Range: 20 – 250 bpm (beats per minute)
Note: The HAC5 can only indicate a heart rate when the appropriate transmitter belt is worn and this
function for the current program is switched on. The heart rate functions have a powerdown-mode:
when there is no impulse for approx. 10 minutes, the heart rate receiver (of the HAC5) switches off
automatically (instead of the HF indication in the text line the indication “HR: no TX” appears).
The heart rate receiver only restarts after a new transmitter search (e.g. by starting of a recording or by
a new selection of the function “current heart rate this function has to appear in the display for at
least 5 seconds).
Average heart rate
Sub-function of the current heart rate function.
IIndicates the calculated average heart rate in the upper display since the beginning of the present tour.
Range: 20 – 250 bpm
In the lower display the average heart rate of the personal maximum heart rate is indicated in per-
centage.
Range: 0 – 100%
Maximum heart rate
Sub-function of the current heart rate function.
Indicates the maximal reached heart rate during the recording in the upper display.

Sub-function of the running stopwatch:
Stops the current split time and lap time. For 3 seconds the lap time is indicated in the upper display
and the split time is indicated in the lower display. Up to 100 split and lap times can be stopped and
saved.
The split time is the time since the start of the stopwatch, the lap time is the time since the last stop of
the split time or since the last lap time.
Range: 0 999:59 (the indication M:SS:1/100 appears up to 10 minutes while the second colon is
flashing, up to 10 hours: S:MM:SS, more than 10 hours: SSS:MM)
Sub-function of stopped stopwatch:
Press UL-button shortly.
Indicates the saved split and lap times with the corresponding counter and the average heart rate of the
lap (and how much of the personal maximum heart rate this is in percentage).
Therefore the split/lap time is indicated firstly, after 3 seconds the indication switches automatically and
displays the average heart rate of the lap and how much of the personal maximum heart rate this is in
percentage for 3 seconds.
Pushing the UL-button shortly again indicates the next split/lap time.
Up to 100 lap times can be saved and indicated.

Countdown
The countdown (or the heart rate or cadence time manager, if switched on) can be started by pressing

Start of the countdown
After the start, the HAC5 counts the indicated time of the countdown backwards until zero is reached
and an alarm signal can be heart. Then the countdown stays at zero.
When using the heart rate interval or the cadence interval (with or without the time manager), the count-
down 2 is automatically counted backwards after the alarm signal. When this is set on zero, another
alarm signal can be heart and the countdown 3 starts. At the end of this countdown the countdown

temperature in the lower display.
7.2 Function indications of the medium display
The medium display line is an information line only. No functions can be started or stopped and no sub-
functions can be called up here.
At some functions the name of the function (e.g. cadence) is indicated for 3 seconds, then the value
appears.
HR-bargraph
Indicates the current heart rate by means of a graphic based on the limit set of the heart rate. Before
the graphic appears the minimum limit is indicated and afterwards the upper limit is indicated.
As soon as the current heart rate reaches the set minimum limit, the graphic turns black from left to
right, depending on the intensity of the heart rate.
Thus it is possible at anytime independent from the present indicated function in the display to
control whether the current heart rate is within or out of the limit set.

Indicates the current heart rate of the (set) personal maximum heart rate in percentage.

Indicates the course of air pressure during the last 24 hours and the forecast for the next 24 hours.
In the course of this, the lower display shows the measured air pressure and the upper display the
moment in which the measurement was made, each for 3 sec.
Current climb / sink (variometer)
Indicates the current climb or sink in meters per minute, resp. in feet per minute.
The arrow in the display shows the direction of change in altitude. This function is of interest for moun-
taineers, bike riders, downhill and cross-country skiing; within limits it is also suitable for use in hang-
gliding and paragliding.
Value range: 0 - 1000 m/min, resp. 0 - 3000 ft/min (exactitude up to 5 m/min, resp. 20 ft/min)
Attention: Due to technical reasons the correct altitude is displayed with a temporal delay of some
seconds after activating the program.
Average climb / average sink
Subfunction of “current ascent / descent
The upper display shows the average climb and the lower display the average sink since the beginning
of the current tour.
Value range: 0 - 1000 m/min, resp. 0 - 3000 ft/min (exactitude up to 5 m/min, resp. 20 ft/min)
Note: These functions allow to calculate the remaining time to reach the next summit or valley. In order
to do so the indicated value is multiplied with 60 which equals the meters in altitude covered per hour.
Maximum climb / sink
Subfunction of “current climb / sink”
The upper display indicates the maximum climb and the lower display the maximum sink since the
beginning of the current tour.
Value range: 0 - 1000 m/min, resp. 0 - 3000 ft/min (exactitude up to 5 m/min, resp. 20 ft/min)

The upper display shows the number of climbs and the lower display the number of sinks since the
beginning of the current tour.

Note: The
HAC5 counts the number of climbs/ sinks of altitude differences from 50 m, resp. 164 ft since
this function was primarily thought to be used in downhill skiing and biking (= users of lift).
Current ascent / descent
Indicates the current ascents / descents covered so far in percent.
Value range: 0 - 99 %.
Attention: Due to technical reasons the correct percentage is displayed with a temporal delay of some
seconds after the beginning of the change in altitude.

Pressing the LL-button again displays the next split/ lap time. Up to 100 split and lap times can be
stopped and displayed.

In case the heart rate and cadence intervals (with or without the time manager) are used, a second
countdown 2 is initiated automatically after the alarm signal. If this countdown is completed, a short
alarm can be heard and countdown 3 is initiated. After the completion of these countdowns the count-
down starts from countdown 1 again (depending on the preset countdown counter). This lasts as long
as the countdown counter is executed. The countdown can be paused or stopped by pressing the
UM-button again.
Pressing the
UM-button for 3 sec. resets the countdown to the countdown of countdown 1.
The countdown function is also used with the heart rate and cadence time manager (see chap. 8.2)
Autoscroll
Indicates automatically all values in a 3 sec. cycle in the lower display.
7.4 Basic Functions
Light
By pressing the LR-button for 4 seconds the light is turned on for approx. 5 seconds.
Automatic light on
By pressing the
LR-button for 6 seconds the automatic light is turned on. For the next 5 hours the light
will be automatically turned on for 5 seconds when pressing any button.
Automatic light off
By shortly pressing the LR-button and immediately afterwards for 6 seconds the automatic light
function is turned off.
Note: If the light manager is active, at pressing any button the light is turned on only and no function
is executed. While in light mode, you have to press the button again to activate any function. To turn
off the light manager, for example, shortly press LR (light is turned on) and immediately press LR for 6
seconds. So the light manager is turned off.
Attention: Light consumes a lot of battery power, frequent use shortens the life span of the battery
accordingly.
Alarm clock / Alarm
If the set alarm time is reached there is a sound for 20 seconds (switch off by pressing any button).
If the alarm timer is set in the lower left of the display, an alarm symbol will show up. You set and switch
the alarm on/off by the topical, see 6.1 or in the basic settings, see 6.5.
Heart rate alarm
You can switch the heart rate alarm on/off in profile settings (choose ‚Beeper on/off‘) or by pressing UL
for 3 seconds. In the display you see the symbol if the heart rate alarm is on.
If the heart rate alarm is switched on you hear a beep when exceeding the heart rate limit.
Power down mode
(power down mode, see main settings chapter 6)
Your HAC5 can be switch to power down mode which means it doesn’t display anything but keeps all
data stored (except for date and time). This is useful e.g. for battery change but also when the HAC5 is
not used for a longer period.
To set power down mode select in the main settings (press MR for 3 seconds) “powerdown” and
confirm by pressing MR. The display shows
Choose with LR/UR either “powerdown” or “no” and confirm by pressing MR.
To re-start the HAC5 simply press any button.

8. Special functions
8.1 Memory function
The
HAC5 has a memory capacity of up to 120 hours (depending on the set recording interval). In this
period all important data as altitude, heart rate, speed, temperature, cadence, power, time and distance
will be automatically stored in short intervals. (This data can be transferred to a PC via interface and be
displayed as graph or in table form and for print). Your HAC5 has a loop recording, i.e. when memory
is exhausted (depending on recording interval up to 120 hours) the oldest data will be replaced by the
newest one.
Recording is started and stopped by simultaneously pressing UL and LL for 3 seconds.
At recording start you hear a beep and in the upper display
is flashing, the selected profile is
displayed and transmitter search starts simultaneously. At recording stop you hear a beep and “ ” is
no longer displayed.
At recording start all min, max and Ø values in the according profile are set to 0.
Important: all min, max and Ø values (display: MIN/MAX/AV) and all daily values (DAY) are only
calculated if recording has been started.
This means: if recording not has been started at training time the last recorded values of the
upper values are displayed, not the current.
To save memory and battery power the recording stops automatically after a certain time depending on
the set recording interval.
At a recording interval of 10 respectively 20 seconds the recording is stopped after 24 hours, at a re-
cording interval of 2 respectively 5 seconds after 6 hours.
Attention: by changing the profile during recording, it is stopped and started in the chosen profile au-
tomatically.
If during recording the settings are changed (by pressing MR for 3 seconds) and a new profile is cho-
sen the recording is stopped and started in the chosen profile automatically.
To adjust while recording e.g. altitude, use the topical by pressing UR for 3 seconds.
8.2 Heart rate time manager
The heart rate time manager is switched on/off in the main settings (see 6.3). It is started/stopped in the
countdown function in the upper or lower display by shortly pressing UM.
To work with the heart rate time manager in 6.3 values have to be set as follows:

The heart rate time manager allows you to train in 3 consecutive intervals (countdown 1 / 2 / 3) in 3 diffe-
rent heart rates (heart rate limit 1 / 2 / 3). That means with the help of the heart rate time manager you
can temporarily train within a set heart rate limit and just as well recover afterwards within a set heart
rate limit.
Example
Set values:
Heart rate lower limit 1 = 120
Heart rate upper limit 1 = 160
Countdown 1 = 30 min.
Heart rate lower limit 2 = 160
Heart rate upper limit 2 = 180
Countdown 2 = 5 min.

You train – after starting the countdown – for 30 minutes in heart rate limit 1, afterwards you step up to
heart rate limit 2 for 5 minutes and recover for 5 minutes in heart rate limit 3. Thereby you hear a beep
at a time when the countdown is up and the new countdown starts (automatically). The intervals rotate
until the in 6.3 set countdown timer is elapsed as well.
By shortly pressing UM the heart rate time manager can be early stopped.
However, the respective countdown runs only if the measured heart rate lies within the set limit. If the
set heart rate lies beyond that limit the countdown pauses until the heart rate is within the limit again.
A better control whether the heart rate is within the set limit is achieved by switching on the heart
rate alarm (pressing UL for 3 seconds switches heart rate alarm on/off).

8.3 Recovery heart rate
With this function you can evaluate your own fitness level. The recovery heart rate is measured 3 minutes
after start of this function. The more the heart rate recovers within these 3 minutes (= decreases), the
better your fitness level.

After a long ascend the heart rate is at 170. By shortly pressing
UL and LL the recovery heart rate
function is started. A beep sounds and a marker for PC analysis is set. To receive the best results do
not strain for 3 minutes. Another beep after those 3 minutes indicates the end of the measurement.
In the main menu heart rate in the upper display you can select the submenu recovery heart rate. There
in the upper display the original heart rate and in the lower display the recovery heart rate after 3 minu
-
tes is shown.
An indication of a high fitness level is when your heart rate is 100 bpm or below 3 minutes after a long
exercise has ended.
This measurement can be performed repeatedly at any time. The PC analysis will show all of these
measurements separately.
8.4 Heart rate limit time memory
With the upper and lower limit of the adjustable heart rate it is possible to
- define heart rate intervals and select them for the present training.
- constantly read the present heart rate within these limits off the heart rate bargraph at the middle
display (see 7.2).
- analyse after (or during) workout, how long you remained within or beyond this limit (submenu of
present heart rate in upper and lower display, see 7.1 and 7.3).
- receive an acoustic warning when the heart rate exceeds or falls below these limits (see 7.4).
8.5 Set markers
Your
HAC5 allows you to set any number of markers (at a 20 seconds interval with a 2 minutes time-
lag between 2 markers at least). That makes it easier for later PC analysis to find certain orientation
points, e.g. road markers.
A marker is set by pressing UL and LL at the same time (simultaneously activating the recovery heart
rate function).

9. PC-mode
Before communication of the HAC5 with the computer can begin, the according programs (at least
one) and the interface (with the help of the driver) have to be installed.
9.1 Installation of the interface
Note: before you install the interface driver, please close all other programs and also deactivate the
antivirus scanner of your system, if not, problems may occur.
Plug interface directly into the computer or laptop (if a USB-Hub or multiple plug is used, problems
may occur).
With newer Windows systems, the plug will be automatically recognized and the hardware assistant
starts. Please follow the instructions and insert the CICLO-CD. After installation is completed, the
hardware assistant may appear again (e.g. under Windows XP), in that case please follow the ins
-
tructions on the screen once again. (Should no automatic installation take place, please look to the
point “problems” below).
If the installation is completed successfully, please check in the device manager of your system by
the point “ports” (COM and LTP) or “ports”. This is where the interface should be seen as USB
serial port” (or similar). An appointed Com-port will appear next to this in brackets. This Com-port is
needed later for the transfer, please note.
Problems:
Should the interface not be shown under “ports” please check if there is an exclamation or question
mark somewhere (possibly, it is shown as “unknown tool” or “USB-serial’). Double-click on the excla-
mation- or question mark, then install the driver (from the CICLO-CD) again.
9.2 Program installation
After successful installation of the interface, the desired program needs to be installed. In order to do
so, enter the CICLO-CD and double click the desired program. To install, please follow the instruc-
tions on the screen.
After installation open the program:
CICLOtour: adjust the corresponding port (which was shown in the tool manager) in the settings.
In the case that also other devices like the HAC4 (PRO) or CM4XXM should be imported, select
“confirm” in the device selection box. CICLOtour will ask you upon beginning the transfer for confir-
mation of the device type.
Click “save” at the right bottom, and then “OK” on the left.
HACtronic: adjust the corresponding port (which was shown in the tool manager) in the settings of
the HACtronic.
In the case that also other devices like the HAC4 (PRO) or CM4XXM should be imported, select
“confirm” in the device selection box. CICLOtour will ask you upon beginning the transfer for confir-
mation of the device type.
9.3 Transfer stored tours
To transfer the stored tours of the HAC5 into the pc, press the MR-button for 3 sec (main setting
mode). Select “PC-connect” with the UR-/OR-button and confirm with the MR-button. The display
now shows the version number in the upper display and the device ID in the lower display.
Now attach the interface clamp to the HAC5 in such a way that the contacts of the clamp are sitting
on the contacts of the backside of the HAC5, afterwards put down the HAC5 with the clamp in such
a way, that the display points upwards.
The transfer starts automatically by the program CICLOtour or HACtronic, when you click to the clo-
ck-icon in the icon list (or click to “data” and choose the transmission to the PC).
The program now shows the transfer screen and “wait”. After a few seconds the transfer should start
(do not move the HAC5 during transfer), if not, see below the point “problems”.
When the transfer is done, the program shows all transferred data in a list (raw data window).
Now take off the interface clamp, the HAC5 still shows the transfer display. Press the MR-button
shortly to leave the PC mode.
Note: Once the PC data transfer display is shown, the setting mode cannot be quit prematurely by
pressing the MR-button for 3 seconds. To quit, press MR-button short. Also, from this mode is no
automatic return to the operational mode, it must always be left manually.
Problems:
Should the PC data transfer not start automatically, click Cancel” in the program, remove the
interface from the HAC and attach again. Then start again the transfer in the program. The transfer
cannot begin automatically if the interface clamp doesn’t sit properly, so please make sure that the
contacts sit properly on the contacts of the HAC5.
Should the transfer be cancelled in the program with a notification of error, the clamp must be remo-
ved and before a new transfer is started the pc data transfer display must be left by short pres-
sing of the MR-button and re-selected by pressing the MR-button again. Then re-attach the clamp
and start again the data transfer on the PC.

9.4 Update the HAC5 firmware
To update the HAC5 firmware, prepare the HAC5 for pc data transfer as shown in chapter 9.3.
Note: Firmware-Update should only be done if battery shows at least 50%.
To update, only the program HAC
tronic can be used. Choose there the firmware update function.
Enter the according firmware data on the next screen and click “start”. The update starts automati-
cally.
10. Changing the batteries
HAC5:
Unscrew the battery cap on the back of the HAC5 to the left with the aid of a coin. Remove old battery
and insert new 3V-Lithium battery type CR2032 with the plus pole facing up, please make sure that
the contacts lie on the battery. Replace battery cap and screw tightly. Do not over twist battery cap!
Attention: If the values and adjustments of the HAC5 are to be maintained during the battery change,
the power-down mode should be switched on before the battery is changed (main setting mode, see
chapter 6.7). If no characters or unintelligible characters appear in the display after the battery change,
remove battery again, wait 10 sec. and insert battery again.
Speed- and cadence transmitter:
Unscrew the battery cap with a coin and remove old battery. Insert new battery type CR2032 with
the plus pole facing up and replace the cap. Do not over twist battery cap!
Heart rate transmitter:
Unscrew the battery cap with a coin and remove old battery. Insert new battery type CR2032 with
the plus pole facing up and replace the cap. Do not over twist battery cap!
Please do not discard used batteries in domestic waste, but discard them on your local
recycling-point.
11. Service and maintenance
Protect from direct sunlight, heat and frost (below 0°C and over 50°C).
Keep the heart rate transmission belt clean:
Do not wash the transmitter belt in a washing machine, due to the attached electrodes. To clean the
transmitter belt, wipe it carefully with a detergent for synthetic fabrics. Do not dry in direct sunlight.
The elastic chest belt is washable, but it must be carefully dried before use.

tour (when no more signals are received SPD 0) and corrected, where appropriate. This correc-
tion function might cause some values to change once again – both up and down.
Some functions don’t appear, although they are activated in the profile
HAC5 is possibly in the baro mode (weather icons on the left side of the display): choose alti mode
in the profile selection display (press UR- and LR-button simultaneously).
Display shows “HR/SPD/CAD: no TX”

13. Guarantee
We offer a guarantee for 2 years from the date of purchase on the CM 8.3A. The guarantee is limited to
material and processing faults. Broken transmitters, or damages of wasted parts of CM 8.3A are exclu-
ded from the guarantee.
The guarantee is valid only if the computer, with accessories, has been handled and maintained carefully
and according to operating instructions.
The guarantee will take place through changes of or repairing the defective parts. The guarantee doens’t
cover direct, indirect or subsequent damages which are related to the product.
This guarantee doesn’t limit any rights of the consumer (considering relative national law) in respect to
the dealer.
To return the CM 8.3A under conditions/terms of the guarantee, please refer to your dealer, your local
distributor or send the computer with the proof of purchase (date) and all accessories and with sufficient
postage to:
