SIZE
The characters in the te xt can be set to one of five diff erent sizes in addition to AUTO ,
which automatically adjusts the characters to the largest possible siz e according to the
width of the installed tape. The currently selected size setting is shown by the indicators at
the top of the displa y . In addition, all of the indicators light up when the AUTO setting is
selected.

STYLE
Y ou can also use one of nine diff erent print styles for the char acters in your label. If a
setting other than NORMAL is selected, the Style indicator at the bottom of the displa y
lights up .

This option allows you to emphasiz e or decorate y our entire text b y framing or underlining
it. If any setting other than OFF is selected, the
ABC / ABC
indicator at the bottom of the
displa y lights up.

MIRROR PRINTING
This function prints your label so that the te xt can be read from the adhesive side of the
tape. If mirror-printed labels are attached to glass or some other tr ansparent material,
they can be read correctly from the opposite side .
Note:
• With this function, the text must be printed on transparent tape.

current mirror printing setting appears in the display .
2 T urn the
dial (or press and ) until the desired mirror printing setting is

3 Press the dial (or ) to apply the selected mirror printing setting to the text.
TAPE MARGIN
This function can be used to leav e equal margins of 4 mm (# ), 12 mm (## ) or 24 mm
(### ) on both sides of the te xt. Using the tape margin setting, m ultiple formats can be
printed, one after the other without feeding the tape, onto a single label.

Note:
• After printing with the tape margin setting (-), hold down
and press
once to feed the tape bef ore pushing in the tape cutter le v er to cut it, otherwise
some of the printed characters may be cut off .
• After printing with the # or ## tape margin setting, push in the tape cutter lever
to cut off the label, and then use scissors to cut along the printed dots (: ) and
centre the text within the label.
PRINTING & CUTTING
After you ha ve entered the te xt and chosen the desired f ormat settings, you are ready to
print the label.
● T o print the label, press
. The message “PRINT” is displa yed while the label is
being printed, and the label comes out of the tape exit slot at the top end of the
machine.
● T o f eed out 25 mm of tape (for e xample, after printing using the tape margin setting),
hold down
and press once. The message “FEED” is display ed while the
tape is f ed out.
● T o cut off the label, push in the tape cutter le ver in the top-right corner of the
machine.
Note:
• In order to pre vent damage to the tape, do not try to cut it while the message
“PRINT” or “FEED” is displa y ed.
• After printing with the # or ## tape margin setting, push in the tape cutter lever
to cut off the label, and then use scissors to cut along the printed dots (: ) and
centre the text within the label.
REPEAT PRINTING
This function allows y ou to print up to nine copies of the same label.

1 T urn the
dial until REPEA T is displayed, and then press the dial (or ). The
message “1-9?” appears in the displa y .
2 T urn the
dial (or press and ) until the number of labels that y ou want to
print appears on the right side of the display .

Press the ke y (1-9) corresponding to the number of labels that y ou want to print.
3 Press the dial (or or ) to print the labels.
Note:
• After printing with the tape margin setting, hold down
and press once

NUMBERING
This function can be used to print many copies of the same text while increasing a
selected number by 1 after each label is printed, f or e xample, when printing labels
containing a serial number (f or example , 0123, 0124, and 0125).

1 P osition the cursor belo w the number that you wish to increase .
2 T urn the
dial until NUMBER is displa yed, and then press the dial (or ). The
message “1-9?” appears in the displa y .
3 T urn the dial (or press and ) until the last number that you want to print
appears on the right side of the display .
OR
Press the ke y (1-9) corresponding to the last number that y ou want to print.
Note: The last number that will be printed must be larger than the number selected
in the text, otherwise the message “ERR OR” will appear when you try to print.
4 Press the
dial (or or ) to print the labels.

FLAGGING
This function allows y ou to wrap labels around cable or wire with the ends stuc k together
to f orm a flag.

The message “1-9” appears in the displa y .
2 T urn the dial (or press and ) until the number “2” appears on the right of
the display .

Note: Y ou can adjust the diameter of the flag.
• T o make the flag diameter shorter :
Refer to “T APE MARGIN” in this User’ s Guide and
select [# ] or [## ] to hav e smaller margins .
• T o make the flag diameter longer:
Refer to “T APE MARGIN” in this User’s Guide and select [###] to hav e bigger margins .
OR
Add ev en space bef ore and after of the character string.
The larger the space becomes, the longer the flag diameter is made .
MEMORY
Y ou can use the memory to store your most frequently used te xt. The te xt file remains in
the memory , ev en after all characters are remo ved from the displa y by holding do wn
and pressing . Later , the te xt can easily be reused by recalling it from the memory .
The machine’ s memory can store up to 300 characters, which can be divided into as
many as nine te xt files. The maximum capacity for a single te xt file is 55 characters .
STORING TEXT

2 T urn the
dial (or press and ) until ST ORE is displa yed, and then press

dial (or ). The message “1-9?” appears in the displa y .

dial (or press and ) until the file number where y ou want to
store the text is displa y ed.
OR
Press the ke y (1-9) corresponding to the file number where y ou want to store the te xt.
4 Press the
dial (or ) to store the te xt. The te xt pre viously shown in the displa y
reappears.
Note:
• If the file number you selected already contains text, the message “ERROR”
appears. Press the
dial (or ), and then select a different file number .
• If nine text files are already stored, the message “ERR OR” appears. Press the
dial (or ), and then delete one of the stored text files before trying to
store the current te xt.
• If 300 characters are already stored, the message “FULL ” appears . Press the
dial (or ), and then delete one of the stored text files before trying to
store the current te xt.
RECALLING TEXT

Press the ke y (1-9) corresponding to the file number of the te xt that you w ant to recall.
4 Press the
dial (or ) to clear the displa y and recall the selected te xt.
DELETING A TEXT FILE

2 T urn the
dial (or press and ) until DELETE is displa yed, and then press

displa yed.

Press the ke y (1-9) corresponding to the file number of the te xt that you w ant to delete.
4 Press the
dial (or ) to delete the selected te xt file .

ERROR MESSAGE LIST
Problem
The displa y stays b lank

Solution
• Check that the batteries are correctly inserted.
• If the batteries are weak, replace them.
• Check that the A C adapter is correctly connected.
• Refer to "T APE MARGIN" in this User’ s Guide and select
[# ] (4mm) to hav e smaller margins f or your label.
• Check that the tape cassette has been inserted correctly .
• If the tape cassette is empty , replace it.
• Check the tape compartment cover is properly closed.
• The batteries may be weak. Replace them.
• When power is disconnected for more than three
minutes , all text & f ormats in the display and an y text files
stored in the memory will be lost.
• There may be some dust on the print head. Remo ve the
tape cassette and use a dry cotton swab to gently wipe
the print head with an up-and-down motion.
• The print head can be cleaned more easily if the
optional print head cleaning cassette (TZ-CL3) is used.
• T urn off the machine, and then while holding down
and , press to turn the machine back on.
Finally , release
and .
• Note: The text and formats in the display and the stored
te xts are erased.
• The batteries may be weak. Replace them.
• Check that the batteries are correctly inserted.
•
Check that the end of the tape feeds under the tape guides.
• The cutter lev er is used while printing. Do not touch the
cutter le ver during printing.
• The tape casette is empty . Replace it.
ERROR An error occurred.
BA TTERY The batteries are weak. Replace them with new ones.
B A T T E R Y The installed batteries are about to run out.
FULL The maximum number of characters (55 char acters) hav e already
been entered or the memory is full.
