your Winora radar Pedelec / S-Pedelec
with TranzX drive!
We would like to sincerely thank you for purchasing
our Winora radar pedelec (pedal electric cycle) /
S-pedelec with TranzX drive, and we hope you enjoy
using your new pedelec.
Please have your dealer explain all the important
functions to you and also read each of these user
manuals carefully. We also strongly advise you to
familiarise yourself thoroughly with the controls and
performance of your pedelec before taking your first
ride on public roads.
Do not hesitate to contact your local dealer before
using your pedelec / S-pedelec if you are uncertain
about its assembly or settings.

3. S-PEDELEC
Definition of terms
Speed pedelec (abbreviated to S-pedelec) or Speed EPAC
Pedelec: Pedal Electric Cycle
EPAC: Electrically Power-Assisted Cycle
Both terms mean a bicycle with an electric "auxiliary motor" that only assists the rider while pedalling. The motor assist stops at 25 km/h.
Under traffic law, an EPAC or pedelec is classified as a bicycle.
Speed: The term "Speed" indicates that this EPAC / pedelec is designed for a maximum speed of 45 km/h. In addition, purely electric operation
is possible up to 20 km/h. Statutory road safety information relating to the Speed EPAC is provided in the following section.

The difference between a "normal" pedelec / bicycle and an S-pedelec
Please note that your S-Pedelec is legally classed as a category L1e motor vehicle and not a pedelec / bicycle, with all the associated
consequences with regard to:
traffic law, insurance law, authorisation requirements where necessary, criminal law.
Liability insurance
You will need moped liability insurance to ride an S-pedelec on a public road. Suitable insurance can be obtained from insurance companies
and banks. Riding the S-pedelec on public roads without insurance constitutes a violation of the compulsory insurance law.
Insurance certificate
As proof of liability insurance you will receive an insurance indicator. It must be mounted on the number plate bracket of your S-pedelec.
If the Speed EPAC is subject to authorisation in the respective country, a number plate must be mounted instead of an insurance indicator.
Authorisation requirement & number plate
In some countries, there may be an authorisation requirement which makes the attachment of a number plate mandatory (as with a motorcycle).

3. S-PEDELEC
CoC document / EC Certificate of Conformity
CoC = Certificate of Conformity
This document is included with your S-pedelec and is uniquely associated with this specific vehicle. The CoC confirms that the vehicle conforms
to the approved type. The CoC is needed to insure your vehicle. Furthermore, when using an S-pedelec in Germany the CoC document must
be carried in accordance with Section 4, para. 5 of the "Regulation on the licensing of vehicles for use on public roads" ("Verordnung über die
Zulassung von Fahrzeugen zum Straßenverkehr").
Important:
Keep the CoC in a safe place. You will need it to insure your vehicle. Should you decide to sell the vehicle in the future, the buyer will request the CoC.
Replacing a lost CoC is a complicated and expensive process.
Non-EU countries
In countries outside the European Union, the supplied EC Declaration of Conformity may not be sufficient. For example, in Switzerland you will
require a Swiss type approval and an additional registration document.
Classification of the S-pedelec as a motorised pedal cycle (moped)
At present, the (not undisputed) legal view is that S-pedelecs should be classified as motorised bicycles (mopeds). This classification is based on
the view that the maximum design speed (MDS), which is used for the classification, is the speed that can be reached by using the motor drive
alone. For an S-pedelec this is <20 km/h, even though they can reach up to 45 km/h with pedal assistance. The German Federal Motor Transport
Authority currently takes this view and approves vehicles of this type with an MDS of <20 km/h.
All S-pedelecs made by Winora-Staiger GmbH are approved with an MDS of <20 km/h. This is indicated in the CoC.
However, we wish to expressly reiterate that this is the current situation and it is entirely possible that the legal definition of the term "maximum
design speed" may change in the future.

Driving licence
The S-pedelec can reach a "maximum design speed" of 20 km/h (pure electric mode). Use of this type of vehicle requires at least a moped
certificate. These can be acquired by persons aged 15 and older.
Cycle paths
Cycle paths may be used outside of urban areas unless there is an additional
sign prohibiting mopeds. Within urban areas, the use of cycle paths is only
permitted if there is a corresponding additional sign (see Fig. right).
Helmet requirement
With respect to the legal requirement to wear a helmet, the classification of the S-pedelec as a moped does not apply. A statement by the
German federal ministry of transport and digital infrastructure (BMVI) from 2012 states:
"The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development and the regional transport authorities of the German federal states have
also agreed that, for electric bicycles that fall within the scope of Directive 2002/24/EC and are classified as motor vehicles, the maximum
design speed within the meaning of Section 21a para. 2 of the road traffic regulations is the speed that is reached when the auxiliary electric
motor ceases to provide assistance."
This assessment refers only to Section 21a para. 2, which governs the helmet requirement.
For an S-pedelec, it is therefore compulsory to wear a "suitable" helmet. However, it is currently not clear what a suitable helmet is. Therefore,
we recommend that you wear a high quality bicycle helmet, ideally with extended protection (e.g. back of the head, side protection). Please ask
your dealer for more information about this.
Roads / paths that are not accessible to motor vehicles
These routes, e.g. forest paths with signs as shown in the adjacent figure, may not be used.
The classification of an S-pedelcs as a moped with a MDS <20 km/h has the following consequences in GERMANY with regard to the need for a
driving license, the use of cycle paths and the requirement to wear a helmet. For the situation in other countries, please refer to the "Country-specific
regulations" section.

Child / load transport using an S-pedelec made by Winora-Staiger GmbH
S-pedelecs made by Winora-Staiger GmbH are not approved for the transport of children or other loads using a trailer.
Furthermore, the use of a trailer to transport children is prohibited by law in Germany.
The transportation of children using a child seat is permitted, however this is not approved by Winora-Staiger GmbH.
Winora-Staiger GmbH accepts no liability for any damage arising from the use of a trailer and/or child seat in combination with the S-pedelec.
Minimum tread depth
Please note that a minimum tread depth of 1 mm is prescribed for motor vehicles such as the S-pedelec (Section 36 para. 2 German road traffic act
[StVZO]).
3.2 Technical information
Type approval and scope
Our S-pedelecs have received type approval as motor vehicles from the German federal motor vehicle and transport authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt).
This approval includes the use of specific components on the vehicles. If the vehicle is operated without the specified components or – to the extent
described on the next page – alternative approved components, its type approval becomes invalid.
Special features of certain components or functions of S-pedelec motor vehicles as compared to conventional pedelec / bicycle components
Certain components or features of the S-pedelec meet the specific requirements that are placed on category L1e motor vehicles. They differ to
conventional pedelec / bicycle components.
Frame / forks
These load-bearing components of the S-pedelecs have been designed to withstand higher loads due to the vehicle's higher speeds
compared to a standard pedelec / bicycle.
Number plate holder
This is designed to hold the number plate in accordance with the legal requirements (visibility, angle).

Rear-view mirror
This is compulsory for motor vehicles. It is type tested in accordance with ECE. Approved mirrors are indicated by the "E" marking.
Brake levers
Brake levers for two-wheel vehicles must be fitted with a ball head at the end. Conventional pedelec / bicycle brake levers do not require this feature.
Stand
The stand has to pass several stability tests and must also fold up automatically when it is completely relieved of load.
Side reflectors
These must be orange, non-triangular and have a type approval in accordance with ECE. Their attachment location is subject to certain
visibility conditions and may not be changed. Approved reflectors can be recognised by the "E" marking.
Brake light
Since 2016 a brake light has been compulsory for new type approvals.
Number plate lighting
Number plate lighting is compulsory for all S-pedelecs produced from 2016.
Daytime running lights or continuous lighting
A permanently activated daytime running light or continuous lighting is compulsory for all S-pedelecs produced from 2016.
Tyres
The tyres must be approved in accordance with ECE R75. Approved tyres are indicated by the "E" marking. A list of optional tyre sizes
can be found on the Certificate of Conformity.

Making structural modifications to your S-pedelec
Since the S-pedelec is a motor vehicle, there are various restrictions regarding structural modifications. Table 1 shows which components
may be replaced and under which conditions.

Approval of alternative components by Winora-Staiger GmbH
Should it become necessary to replace the original components due to damage, wear, etc., we recommend that you use original components.
To do so, contact your Haibike dealer. Winora-Staiger GmbH provides its retail partners with a list of the original specifications. When replacing
the components listed in column 1a), original parts must be used exclusively.
In addition, alternative parts may be used to replace the components listed in columns 1b) & 1c). While you are relatively free in the choice
of components in column b) of Table 1, only components that have been officially approved by Winora-Staiger GmbH may be used to replace
the components listed in column c).
Please ask your Winora-Staiger GmbH dealer about this.
Winora-Staiger GmbH provides its retail partners with a frequently updated list of approved components.
Failure to observe the restrictions specified in columns a) and c) will invalidate the vehicle's type approval, which means it can no longer
be operated.

The LED lights up when the pushing aid (pedelec) or starting aid (S-pedelec) is activated.
The charge level indicator shows the battery's current charge level.
The LED is either green, yellow or red. This means:
green: 60–100% remaining battery charge
yellow: 20–59% remaining battery charge
red: 1–19% remaining battery charge
(approx 3–20 km possible depending on range factors, see the section "The Range".)
Caution: When the battery is depleted, the entire system shuts down.
This means that the lights will also no longer function!
For charging external devices, e.g. smartphone.

Max. charging current: 600mA
Caution: Close cover when not in use to ensure watertightness (IPX4)

Displays the vehicle's current speed.

4. Assist level indicator
The motor can provide five assist levels. If none of the four LEDs is lit, motor assist is disabled. One lit LED
indicates the lowest level of motor assist, four lit LEDs indicates the maximum level of assist.

5.2 System startup
Wake up from hibernation mode*
If the system has not been used for over 12 hours,
it must be switched on via the button on the battery.
The software version of the system is then shown
on the display.
You can then switch on the system by pressing
the button on the DP27 display.
Wake up from standby mode
If the system was active during the previous 12 hours,
it will be in standby mode and can be switched on via
the button on the DP27 display.
Lights - radar speed
The front and rear lights are automatically switched
on/off together with the drive system.
Lights - radar urban & tour
To switch the main light on/off, press and hold the
button for at least three seconds (the pushing aid
must be deactivated – LED for pushing aid is unlit).
Select level of motor assist
Use the & buttons to select the desired
assist level.
Pushing aid (up to 6km/h for pedelec)
or starting aid (up to 18km/h for S-pedelec)
To activate the pushing or starting aid, press and hold
the button for at least three seconds. The Indicator
LED lights up. The pushing or starting aid is now ready.
Start the pushing or starting aid by pressing and holding
the button. The motor will now accelerate the bike
purely electrically, i.e. without you having to pedal, up
to max. 6km/h (pushing aid for pedelec) or max. 18 km/h
(starting aid for S-pedelec).
After five seconds without use, the pushing or starting aid
is automatically deactivated. The indicator LED goes out.
Shutdown
You can manually switch off the system via the
button (press and hold for two seconds). However,
the system switches itself off automatically after three
minutes and enters standby mode. After 12 hours,
the system enters hibernation mode.
Entering hibernation mode
Press and hold the button on the battery for at least
three seconds to put the battery into hibernation mode.
* After 12 hours of inactivity the battery enters hibernation mode. This reduces battery drain to a minimum.

What does "default motor assist" mean?
Based on the factory settings, the motor assist level can be adjusted within a range of -15% (0 in the display) to
+15% (9 in the display). The factory setting is neutral (5 in the display). Setting 9, for example, will in principle result
in 15% extra motor power than before with the same riding situation and assist level.
Changing the factory settings can be useful depending on the region. For example, slightly less assistance is needed
for flat terrain than for mountainous terrain.

control unit (except radar speed).

Only charge the battery with the original charger.
Never open the battery or the charger.
Keep the battery away from heat and fire.
Do not create a short circuit with the peripheral devices.
Do not destroy or immerse the battery in liquids.
Do not drop the battery.
(inspect the battery for external damage if this should happen, and also after a fall when riding.
Contact your dealer if the battery exhibits unusual behaviour, such as early shut-off or even excessive heat development.
In such cases, stop using or charging the battery and refrain from storing the battery in your living space!)
Do not store or charge the battery and charger near heaters or in direct sunlight.
Only charge the battery at temperatures between 0°C and 45°C.
Only charge the battery in ventilated areas.
Disconnect the battery from the charger when the indicator light is green.
(never leave the battery on the charger for longer than 12 hours.)
Unplug the charger from the mains when it is not in use.
Remove the battery from your e-bike when cleaning or repairing it.
Store the battery and the charger out of reach of children.
Do not charge the battery on flammable surfaces.
Preferably store the battery in a cool, dry and ventilated place and at a constant temperature.

in the "Winora Group eBike / Pedelec Manual".
Remove the battery from your e-bike if you do not plan to use it for more than two weeks and store
the battery in a dry place at a room temperature between 5°C and 25°C. The battery should be charged
to around 70% during this time.
For prolonged storage and at the latest after 3 months, check the remaining battery charge and if necessary
perform a maintenance charge (50–70% capacity for storage = 3–4 bars).
Do not let the battery charger come into contact with water or moisture. The charger is not designed
for use outdoors.
Inspect the battery charger, cable and plug for damage before use.
Do not touch the charger with wet hands.
Improper use or storage without regular recharging as described above will invalidate the guarantee.

6.2 Inserting and removing the pedelec battery
INSERTING THE BATTERY
1. First place the top of the battery into the holder (a).
2. Press the lower end of the battery into the locking
mechanism (b).
3. Check that the battery is seated properly and that the
lock is engaged. If the key or the lock is in the closed
position (c), a click should be heard when inserting
the battery.

2. First, pull the bottom end of the battery upwards
out of the battery holder (a).
3. Then pull the battery backwards and downwards
out of the battery holder.

6.3 Charging the battery

5.9 h +/- 0.5 h
In the event of an extreme temperature increase
the charging system will switch itself off via an inte-
grated heat sensor – before damage occurs to the
battery or charger.
Use only the supplied TranzX charger. Use of
any other battery charger will invalidate the
warranty and may cause damage to the
battery, the electrical system of the bicycle
and in the worst case, may result in a fire.
Make sure that the available power supply
meets the required voltage specifications.
1. You can either charge the battery directly on the bike or remove
it for charging.
2. Remove the cap from the charging port and insert the
charging plug into the port (a). The light on the charger
changes from green to red (b). This means that the charger
is connected and the battery is charging.
3. Charging is complete when the light on the charger turns green.
4. Remove the charging plug from the battery and disconnect
the charger from the mains.

6.4 The range
The range is determined by the following factors:
Riding style: sporty, active cycling or relaxed gliding with plenty of motor assist. Pedalling rate: ideal pedalling
rate is 60–70 revolutions per minute for optimum motor efficiency. Please change to the next higher / lower gear
at the correct time. Average speed: the higher the average speed, the lower the range. Cycling mode: the
higher the motor assist level, the lower the range. Outside temperature: in particular, temperatures below 0°C
can significantly reduce the range. For an optimal temperature, store the battery at room temperature before
use. Battery capacity: a new, fully charged battery (100% capacity) will provide the highest mileage. Route
profile: uphill routes and continuous stop-and-go cycling will reduce the range. Cycling with a tailwind and
on a level road will increase the range. Weight: the higher the total weight, the lower the range. Maintenance
condition: keeping your pedelec well maintained increases its range. In particular, tyre pressures that are too
low can result in lower mileage.

Maximum ranges are achievable under the following conditions:
level route, solid ground, 70 kg rider weight, no additional load,
no wind, 15 km/h average speed with EPAC and 25km/h
with S-EPAC, approx. 20 °C outside temperature, optimal
gear changes, maximum tyre pressure, pedelec in perfectly
maintained condition.

7. MALFUNCTIONS – CAUSES & REMEDIES
In the event of an unexpected fault, an error code will be shown on the display. The error code provides information
about the cause of the fault. In most cases, the fault can only be resolved by your dealer. If an error code appears
on the display, remove the battery. Then wait a moment and try again.
If the error message persists, contact the dealer from whom you purchased the bike.
Common "faults": no signal from the speed sensor [E05]:
This error code is often triggered by a twisted / slipped spoke magnet.
Therefore, check that the magnet is firmly seated as shown below.
