Faults and how to remedy
Problem Cause Solution
Engine won’t start
No petrol Fill tank
Spark plug lead not correctly tted Check and t tightly
Stale petrol in tank
Always use fresh petrol out of clean containers.
Empty petrol tank before winter or when mower is
not in use for a longer period.
Dirty carburettor
Clean carburettor (by an approved Service Centre).
Dirty air lter
Clean the foam lter after every 25 hours of operation.
Thoroughly wash the lter in water or a soap solution.
Never lubricate the lter. Exchange paper lter once a
year or after100 working hours.
No spark from plug
Clean spark plug (Champion RC 12 YC).
Check plug lead. Check plug gap. Check for spark.
After repeated efforts to start, engine
„ooded“
Remove spark plug and dry. Pull starter rope
several times whilst plug is still removed.
Blade jammed under deck Clean deck.
Grass catcher/deectorplate not
properly xed.
On Scooter SV4 it is onlypossible to start engine when
grass catcher/deector-plate are properly xed.
Plug on grass catcher switch loose Check and x connection.
Engine won’t turn over
using electric key start
Battery discharged
Manual start to recharge battery by generator in
engine. Charge battery with mains charger (Accessory).
Battery connections loose Check and x.
Starter cable at engine not rmly connected Check connection.
Engine labours
Grass too tall and/or dense/wet.
Increase cutting height.
Wait for grass to dry.
Blockage under deck Clean deck
Dirty air lter See under „engine won’t start“.
Carburettor setting incorrect Check.
Blade badly worn
Sharpen or replace blade. Please note: blade should
only be sharpened by an approved Service Centre.
Grass too tall – results in poor discharge of cuttings.
Mow rst at higher cutting height and then at the
desired height.
Inside of deck dirty – cuttings from
last mowing.
Clean deck interior and discharge duct.
Blade vibrations Blade damaged
Stop engine immediately.
Replace damaged blade.
Use only original WOLF parts.
Poorly mown lawn
Blunt blade
Sharpen or replace blade. Sharpening should be
carried out by an approved WOLF Service Centre.
Incorrect height adjustment Adjust to correct height setting.
Tyre pressures incorrect Adjust tyre pressure to 2,0 bar (29 lb./in
2
).
Grass catcher does not ll
Cutting height too low Adjust cutting height.
Scooter driven too fast Mow only in rst or secont gear.
Grass ist wet and thus too heavy to be transported Mow when lawn has dried.
Blade is blunt
Sharpen or replace blade. Sharpening should be
carried out by an approved Service Centre.
Grass catcher does not ll
Grass too tall,leading to poortransportation
of cuttings.
Mow rst at higher cutting height and subsequently
at required height.
Underside of deck dirty. Clean deck.
No drive to wheels
Bowden cable wrongly adjusted Adjust (by an approved Service Centre).
Drive belt damaged Fit new belt (by an approved Service Centre).
Brakes become less effective Adjust brakes Adjust (by an approved Service Centre).
Blade drive inoperative
Bowden cable wrongly adjusted Adjust (by an approved Service Centre).
Bowden cable damaged Fix new cable (by an approved Service Centre).
Steering
Steering becomes heavy
Loosen steering column clamp slightly and
lubricate the column.
Loose Tighten steering column clamp (Mt: ~ 15 Nm).
When in doubt, always consult a WOLF service workshop. Important: switch off the mower and disconnect the spark plug lead
before inspecting, cleaning or working on the blades.
