Installing and Replacing the Batteries
CAUTION: Bef ore opening the battery
compartment, be sure that the telephone is not
plugged into a wall jack and tha t any e xternal
equipment (e.g ., fax machine , extension phone,
etc.) is disconnected from the telephone .
Y our phone uses 4 AA-size alkaline batteries for rec eiving
and storing Caller ID rec ords and for st oring the numbers
you use for memory dialing, pulse dialing , and redial.
Y ou will hav e appro ximately 90 sec onds to replace
the batteries befor e the memories stored are lost .
Please read the instructions before replacing
the batteries and hav e the batteries r eady to be
inserted beforehand.
If the low battery icon appears in the display , you
need to replace the ba tteries. It is important that
you replac e the batteries as soon as possible in
order to maintain C aller ID operation.
If you are not going to use the t elephone for more
than 30 day s, remo ve the batt eries because they
may leak and damage the unit.
1) If necessar y , disconnect the telephone cor d and remove
the desk stand. ( T o remove the desk stand, turn the base
over , press in on the tabs and slip them out of the slot.)
2) Release the
latch on the
battery
compartment
and remov e
the cover .
3) Inser t 4 AA-
size alkaline
batteries as
shown on the
diagram in the
battery compar tment.
4) Snap the battery compar tment door back into place and
replace the desk stand .
5) Connect the line cord and check your memory locations.
Re -attaching the desk stand
T urn the phone ov er . I nser t the hooks marked DESK into
the notches marked DESK. Press in on the tabs and snap
the stand into place .
Connecting the Handset
1) Connect one end of
the coiled handset
cord to the jack on
the handset.
2) Plug the other
end of the coiled
handset cord to the
jack on the base.
3) Place the handset
in the cradle.
Connecting the T elephone Line
T o use two-line features , you must subscribe to tw o
telephone lines from y our local phone company .
Y our phone compan y might provide these lines
on two separa te modular jacks or on only one jack
(a two-line or four-wire jack); if y ou hav e one jack
for both lines, the phone c ompany c ontrols which
number is line 1.
1) Connect one of the included two-line telephone cords to
the L IN E 1+2 jack . If your phone company uses a
separate phone jack f or each line, connect the other
telephone cord t o the L IN E 2/ DA T A jack.
2) Connect the cord from LI NE 1+2 to a two-line phone
jack.
OR
If your phone company uses a separa te phone jack for
each line, connect the cord fr om L IN E 1+2 to the jack for
LINE 2/DA T A

The equipment must be installed using an acceptable
method of connection. The customer should be a ware that
compliance with the abov e conditions may not prev ent
degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certi ed equipment should be made by an

the supplier . Any repairs or alterations made b y the user to
this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may giv e the
telecommunications compan y cause to request the user t o
disconnect the equipment.
Users should ensure f or their own protection that the
electrical ground connections of the power utility ,
telephone lines and internal metallic wat er pipe systems,
if present, ar e connected together . T his precaution may be
particular ly important in rural areas.

connections themselves, but should contact the
appropriate electric inspection authorit y , or electrician, as
appropriate .
NOTES: This equipment may not be used on coin service
provided by the t elephone company .
Interference Informa tion
This equipment generat es and uses radio frequency
energy which may int er fere with r esidential radio and
television reception if not pr operly installed and used in
accordanc e with instructions contained in this manual.
Reasonable protection against such interference is
ensured, although ther e is no guarantee this will not
occur in a given installa tion. If inter ferenc e is suspected
and veri ed by switching this equipment on and o ,
the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference
by one or more of the f ollowing measures: Reorient the
radio/television rec eiver’ s an tenna, relocate the equipmen t
with respect to the receiv er , plug the equipment and
receiv er into separate cir cuit outlets. The user may also
wish to consult a quali ed radio/television technician for

T elephone Network Inf ormation
Should your equipment cause trouble on y our line which
may harm the telephone network, the telephone company ,
where practicable, may notify y ou that temporary
discontinuance of service may be requir ed. Wher e prior
notice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant
such action, the telephone company may t emporarily
discontinue service immediately .
The telephone compan y may make changes in its
communications facilities, equipment , operations or
procedur es where such action is required in the operation
of its business. If these changes are expected to a ect the
use or per formance of your t elephone equipment, the
telephone compan y will likely give you adequa te notice to
allow you to main tain uninterrupted service.
Notice must be given t o the telephone company upon
termination of your telephone fr om your line .
REN Number
On the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating ,
among other information, the Ringer Equivalence Number
(REN) for the equipment.
The REN is useful in determining the number of devices
you may connect to y our telephone line and still have
all of these devices ring when your telephone number is
called. In most (but not all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all
devices connected to one line should not ex ceed 5. T o be
certain of the number of devices you may connect to your
line as determined by the REN, you should c ontact your
local telephone company .
REN Number is located on the cabinet bottom.

Introduction
T erms Used in This Manual
Hook switch. T he par t of the phone that pops up to activate
the phone line when the handset is lifted from the base.
Line indicator . The light located next to li ne 1 and l i ne 2 ; it
shows you the sta tus of each line.
O -hook. A term used to describe the phone in its active
mode when the handset is o of the base cradle or a line
button, along with Sp e a ke r , is pressed.
On-hook. A term used to describe the phone in an inactive
mode.

Setting Up the Phone
Using the Menu
• F or best results, disc onnect the telephone cord(s) from
the wall jacks(s) while using the setup menu.
• T o open the setup menu, press me n u.
• Pr ess m en u to scroll through the 4 menu screens detailed
below .
• On each screen, use up or D ow n to selec t the desired
setting.
• Pr ess Menu again to save the setting .
• If you don ’t pr ess any buttons f or 20 seconds, the phone
exits the menu.
Setting the display language (E NG F R A ES P )
Use this screen to change the displa y language from
English to F rench or Spanish.

2) Use up or D ow n to selec t ENG, FRA or ESP .

Setting the display contr ast (CON T R A ST )
Use this screen to adjust the c ontrast of the display .

Setting your local area code (L OC A L AR E A COD E)
The telephone uses the prog rammed area code t o
determine the number format to displa y when a valid Caller
ID message is receiv ed. Numbers that match the local ar ea
code are display ed as seven digits and ar e used for dialing
back previous numbers. Ent ering your local area code will
also help you immediately know if the call is local or long
distance when viewing the CID recor ds in the display .
If you make a mistak e and want t o start over again,
press De l et e to delete all of the digits.

Setting the dial mode (T ON E/ P uL S E )
Use this screen to change fr om touch-tone to pulse (r otary)

Completing Set-up
• When you are sa tis ed with the phone ’ s con guration,
press Menu (or wait 20 seconds f or the phone to
automatically exit the menu).
• Reconnect the telephone cord(s) to the wall jack(s).
• After set up , the phone will program the time and dat e
automatically when it rec eives a valid Caller ID message .
T elephone Basics
Y ou can use the telephone by speaking into and listening
through the handset, or by using the speakerphone
featur e. F or all operations , either Line 1 or 2 button must be
pressed. Do not pr ess both buttons down at the same time .
Making a Phone Call
1) Pr ess l in e 1 or l in e 2 .
2) Pick up the handset or pr ess S pe a k er to use the
speakerphone.
3) When you hear the dial tone , dial the number you want
to call.
OR
1) Dial the number .
2) Pr ess l in e 1 or l in e 2 , then pick up the handset or press
Sp e ak e r.
Receiving a Phone C all
When a call comes in, the LI N e 1 or L I Ne 2 indicator light
ashes next to let you know which line is ringing . T o answer
the call:
1) Pr ess the button (l in e 1 or li n e 2 ) next to the ashing
light.
2) Pick up the handset, or pr ess S pe a ke r .
Hanging up
Replace the handset in the cradle, or pr ess S pe a ke r if you are
using the speakerpone.
Reading the Line Status Indicators
This two-line phone is designed for use at multiple
stations. The L I Ne 1 and L I Ne 2 indicator lights tell y ou what is
happening on each line.

Adjusting the Handset V olume
The volume con trols for the handset and speakerphone ar e
separate , so you can adjust one without a ecting the other .
1) Pick up the handset and pr ess V olu me . R EC (handset
receiv er) shows in the display .
2) Pr ess u p to increase the volume or Do wn to lower the
volume. The handset ’ s volume level setting will be sa ved
in memor y .
Placing a Call While T alking on Another
Line
T o place a call without hanging up on the rst call:
1) Pr ess H ol D to put the rst call on hold.
2) Pr ess the available line button to get a dial t one. P ress
Sp e ak e r if the speakerphone indicator is o and y ou are
using the speakerphone.
3) Dial the number you want to call .
Receiving A C all W hile T alking on Another
Line
When you rec eive a call while you ar e talking on another
line, you will hear the phone ring .
1) Pr ess H ol D to put the rst call on hold.
2) Pr ess the button (l in e 1 or li n e 2 ) of the ringing line.
3) If the speakerphone indicator is o and you are using the
speakerphone, press Sp ea k er .
If you don ’ t put the rst call on hold, the phone will
disconnect that call when you switch to the other
line.
Using the Speak erphone
Y ou must hav e batteries installed to use the
speakerphone ..
• During a normal call, simply press Sp e ak e r and place the
handset in the cradle to switch to the speakerphone .

line 1; then, connect the cord from LI NE 2/DA T A the jack
for line 2.
3) Set the ringer volume for each line (ri n Ge r 1 for line 1 and
ri n Ge r 2 for line 2) to the desired loudness.
OFF - T elephone will not ring.
L O - Sound will be lowest.
HI - Sound will be loudest.
The unit is properly installed if y ou pick up the
handset and hear the dial tone. Otherwise, recheck
all installation steps.
Data P ort
If both of your telephone lines are the same modular
jack, you can use the L IN E 2/DA T A jack to connect an
auxiliary device, such as a fax machine, computer modem,
answering machine, or extension phone . The auxiliary
equipment will make and receiv e calls on line 2 only .
W all M ounting
Y our speakerphone can also be mounted on a wall plate
(not included).
T o prev ent the handset from falling out of the
cradle while the phone is hanging on the wall , you
must switch both the handset hook and the desk
stand to their wall-mount positions .
1) On the front of the base , pull
the handset hook out of the
slot. Rotate the hook 180
degrees and ip it from front
to back. Slide it back into the
slot.
2) T urn the base ov er and remov e the desk stand.
3) Rotate the stand 180 degrees , and insert the hooks
marked W ALL into the notches marked W ALL. Press in on
the tabs and snap the stand into place .
4) Connect the two-line telephone cord to the wall jack
and the L IN E 1+2 jack on the phone. If desired, wrap any
excess c ord around the c ord hooks as shown.
5) If necessar y , connect a cord connected to LI NE 2/DA T A,
and pull it up out of the way .
• Place the mounting slots ov er the pins on the wall plate ,
and slide the base down to lock it into plac e.
