Installing and Replacing the Batteries
Y our Caller ID phone uses 4 AA-size alkaline batteries for r eceiving and storing Caller ID
records and f or storing the numbers you use f or memory dialing, pulse dialing, and redial .
IMPORT ANT: Y ou will hav e appro ximately 90 seconds t o replace
the batteries befor e the memories stored ar e lost. Please read the
instructions before replacing the batteries and ha ve the batt eries ready
to be inserted beforehand.
IMPORT ANT: If y ou are not going to use the telephone f or more than 30
days , remov e the batteries because they ma y leak and damage the unit.
1. Disconnect the telephone line cord and remo ve the desk
stand from the back of the base.
2. Release latch or the battery compartments and remove
cover .
3. Inser t 4 AA-size alkaline batteries as shown on the
diagram in the battery compartments.
4. Snap the battery compar tment door back into place and
replace the desk stand.
5. Connect the line cord and check your memory locations.
NOTE: If the low ba ttery icon appears in the display , you need to replace
the batteries. It is important that you replac e the batteries as soon as
possible in order to maintain C aller ID operation.
Installing the Phone
Y our phone should be placed on a level surface, such as a desk or table top , or you can
mount it on a wall.
Connecting the Handset
1. Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the jack on the handset .
2. Plug the other end of the coiled handset cord t o the jack on the base.
3. Place the handset in the cradle .
Connecting the T elephone Line
1.
Connect one end of the straight telephone line cor d to the jack on the back of the base.
2. Connect the other end to a wall phone jack.
3.
Set the ringer volume switch located at the back of the base to
the desired loudness.
OFF - T elephone will not ring.
L O - Sound will be lowest.
HI - Sound will be loudest.
NOTE: The unit is properly installed if you pick up the
handset and hear the dial tone. Otherwise, recheck
all installation steps.
W all M ounting
Y our speakerphone can also be mounted on a wall plate (not included).
NOTE: T o prevent the handset fr om falling out
of the cradle while the phone is hanging on
the wall, y ou must switch both the handset
hook and the desk stand to their wall-mount
positions.

the slot. Rotate hook 180 degrees and ip it fr om front
to back. Slide it back into the slot.

in on the tabs and snap the stand into place .

T elephone Basics
Y ou can use the telephone by speaking into and listening through the handset, or b y
using the speakerphone.
Receiving a Phone Call
1. Lift the handset or press the speaker button to answ er the call.
2. Replace the handset in the cradle or press the speaker butt on to hang up .

Storing a Name and Number in Memory
1. Press the st ore button. The screen displays L OCA TION?.
2. Press the desir ed memory location (0-9, A, B, C).
NOTE: Y ou may select memory locations by pressing

4. Use the number keys to ent er the telephone number (up to 32 digits) and pr ess the
store button to sa ve . ( The unit will not dial a phone number in this mode.) The cursor
automatically moves t o the text line for name entry .
5. Use the number keys to ent er the name of the person associated with the telephone
number you just enter ed. More than one letter is st ored in each of the number keys.
F or example, to en ter the name BILL SMITH, press the 2 key twice for the lett er B. P ress
the 4 key 3 times for the letter I. P ress the 5 key 3 times f or the letter L.

Changing a Stor ed Number
Repeat the storage sequence under “Storing A Name and Number in Memor y ” , and use
the delete button to delete the old number bef ore ent ering the new number .
Erasing a Stor ed Number
1. Press the st ore button.
2. Press the memory location (0-9, A, B, C) to be erased.
3. Press the delet e button.
Cop ying Caller ID Memories to U ser Memor y
1. Press the re view 3 or 4 buttons to view the caller number and name you w ant to
copy .
2. Pr ess the store button.
3. Pr ess the memory location (0-9, A, B, C). The number ashes if ther e is a number
already stored in the memory location.

to edit the name.

Storing a Redial Number to Memory
1. Press the st ore button.
2. Press an y key (0-9, or quick call buttons A, B , or C) for the memory location. I f there is
a number already stored in the memory location it will appear on the display . Use the

Dialing a Number Stored in Memory While On-hook
1. Press the dial butt on.

Dialing a Number Stored in Memory

Cascade Dialing
This process allo ws you to dial a suc cession of stored numbers fr om separate memory
locations. This is useful when you must dial several sequences of numbers , such as with
frequent calls via a telephone compan y long distance pro vider .

Storing a P ause in Memory
The redial button has dual functionality and becomes a pause button when the store
button is pressed rst. It is valid only when storing a number into memory locations.
Use the redial/pause button to insert a pause when a delay is needed in an automatic
dialing sequence. F or example, when you must dial a 9 to get an outside line or when
you enter codes t o access your long distanc e company .

1. With the handset on the cradle , enter the telephone number y ou wish to call. The

1 Notication to the Local T elephone Company
On the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among other inf ormation, the US number
and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for the equipment. Y ou must, upon request, provide this
information to your t elephone company .
The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you ma y connect to your telephone line
and still have all of these devices ring when your t elephone number is called. In most (but not
all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices c onnected to one line should not exceed 5. T o be
certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line as determined by the REN, y ou
should contact your local telephone compan y .
A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring and telephone network
must comply with the applicable FCC P art 68 rules and requirements adopted b y the ACT A. A
compliant telephone cor d and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be
connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant . See installation instructions for
details.

2 Rights of the T elephone Company
Should your equipment cause trouble on y our line which may harm the telephone network,
the telephone company shall , where practicable, notify you tha t temporary discontinuance of
service may be required. Where prior notice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant
such action, the telephone company may temporarily disc ontinue service immediately . In case
of such temporary discontinuance, the telephone compan y must: (1) promptly notify you of
such temporary discontinuance; (2) aord y ou the opportunity to correct the situation; and (3)
inform you of your right t o bring a complaint to the Commission pursuant t o procedures set
forth in Subpar t E of Part 68, FCC Rules and Regulations .
The telephone compan y may make changes in its communications facilities, equipmen t,

Making a Phone Call
1. Lift the handset or press the speaker button. W ait for a dial tone.
2. Dial the telephone number you want t o call.
3. Replace the handset in the cradle, or pr ess the speaker button to hang up .
V olume
Y ou may adjust the handset and speakerphone volume independently with the
VOL ( - or + ) buttons. Both handset r eceiver volume lev el and speakerphone volume
level are sa ved in memory.
Adjusting the Handset Receiv er Volume
While using the handset, you can adjust the speaker v olume by pressing the
VOL ( - or + ) buttons. The screen displays REC (Handset Rec eiver) volume.
Adjusting the Speakerphone V olume
While using the speakerphone, you can adjust the speaker v olume by pressing the
VOL ( - or + ) buttons. The screen displays SPK volume lev el.
NOTE: Both handset r eceiver and speak erphone volume return t o the
default setting (low) if the unit's pow er is reset.
Redial
Y ou may redial the last number y ou called by pressing the redial butt on after you hear a
dial tone.
NOTE: The redial featur e holds the last number (up to 32 digits) that y ou
dialed in memory. If you pr essed any other numbers after dialing the
phone number (for example , when accessing a v oice-menu system) then
those numbers are also dialed.
Mute
Use the mute button to in terrupt a phone conv ersation to talk privately with someone
else in the room. A con versation can be muted while using the speakerphone or
handset.
1. Press the mut e button. The mute indicator illuminates.
2. Press mut e again to turn it o .
NOTE: S witching from speak erphone to handset cancels mute .
Flash
Press ash/e xit to activate special fea tures of your t elephone network, such as call
transfer , or special ser vices from y our local telephone company , such as call waiting.
T emporar y T one Dialing
If you have pulse (r otary) ser vice and want to access customer calling services (such
as telebanking and long distance ser vices) that requir e tone dialing, y ou can use this
feature t o temporarily change from pulse t o tone service.
After dialing the telephone number and connecting to the customer calling service,
1. Press and r elease the *tone button.
2. When you hang up , the telephone aut omatically returns to pulse dialing mode .
Speakerphone Basics
Location
Y our phone features a speakerphone f or ease of use and conv enience during a phone
conv ersation. At an y time during a conversa tion, you can lift the handset to stop using
the speakerphone. Likewise, when y ou are using the handset, press the speak er button
and place the handset in the cradle to switch t o the speakerphone.
F or best speakerphone per formance , avoid the f ollowing:
•
Areas with high backgr ound noise. ( The microphone might pick up these sounds and
prevent the speakerphone fr om going into the rec eiving mode when you nish talking.)
• Sur facesaectedbyvibr ation.
• Recessedareassuchasinacorner ,underacupboard,ornexttoacabinet,whichcan
generate an echo e ect.
Speakerphone Use
Note the following guidelines when using the speakerphone:
• Thespeakerphoneworkssimilartoatwo-wayradiointhaty oucanonlylistenortalk
at one time.

whom you are talking.

Caller ID ( CID ) F eatures
IMPORT ANT: In order t o use all of the featur es of this telephone, y ou
must subscribe to two separat e services available from y our local
telephone compan y: the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service
to know who is calling when the phone rings and Caller ID with Call
W aiting Service to know who is calling while you are on the phone .
CID Summar y Screen
The Summary Screen shows the current time, dat e, and number of new calls to r eview . It
is displayed until an y button is pressed .
NOTE: The number of new calls is displayed un til all new calls hav e been
review ed.
Receiving and Storing CID C alls
This units receiv es and displays inf ormation transmitted by y our local company . T his
information can include the phone number ,date, and time ;or the name , phone number ,
date, and time . The unit can st ore up to 75 calls f or later review . W hen the memory is full,
a new call automatically replaces the oldest call in memory . The screen displays NEW for
calls received tha t have not been r eviewed. The screen displays REP T for calls rec eived
more than once which hav e not been reviewed .

Caller ID Display Messages
The following special messages indica te the status of a message or the unit:
BL OCKED CALL The caller of the incoming call is reg istered as
“Private Number” and their Caller ID information is withheld .
CALL W AITING Indicates a call is waiting on the line.
Battery power level is low .
NO CALLS The caller memory is empty.
ST ART/END Y ou are at the beginning or the end of the Caller ID memory log.
UNKNOWN CALLER The incoming call does not hav e Caller ID service or their ser vice
area is not linked to yours . If the screen displays UNKNO WN
CALLER along with a calling number , the name information for
that number was not available .

Dialing Back
When reviewing Caller ID r ecords , you can dialback the numbers on the display b y
pressing the dial button.
NOTE: If the scr een displays PICK UP PHONE, no other changes to
the number can be made. The information sent from the telephone
company is known to be a v alid number for dialing back (used only
in very limited areas). Once you pickup the phone , the number is
automatically dialed.
If Y ou Pr ogrammed Y our Local Area C ode
1. Use the review 3 or 4 buttons t o display the number you wan t to dial.
2. Press the dial butt on.
• Ifyouseeanumberwithsevendigits(i.e .555-1234),thenthecallisfromwithinyour
area code . However , this does not guarantee the call is a local call .
• Ifyouseeanumberwith11digits(i.e.1-234-555-1234),thenthecallisnotfr om
within your area code .
NOTE: A timer (10 sec onds on-hook and 3 seconds o-hook) locat ed in
the upper right side of the display will start, letting you know how much
time is left until the unit returns to the Summary Screen.
3. If you are at on-hook and the screen displa ys PICKUP OR ADJ , y ou can adjust the
phone number format by pr essing the dial button. If the phone is o-hook and the
screen displays ADJU ST, you can adjust the phone number format b y pressing the
dial button. F or example, sometimes a 7-digit local number cannot be dialed because
it requires a 10-digit or 11-digit format. P ress the dial button repea tedly to scroll
through the 7, 10, and 11-digit numbers.
7-digits: 7-digit telephone number (i.e. 555-5555)
10-digits: 3-digit area code + 7-digit telephone number (i.e. 425-555-5555)
11-digits: long distance code 1 + 3-digit area code + 7-digit telephone
number (i.e. 1-425-555-5555)
4. T o dial the displayed number , and the phone is on-hook, pick up the handset or press
the speaker button befor e the timer reaches 0. If the phone is o-hook, wait until the
time reaches 0. The screen displa ys NOW DIALING and the number is dialed .
If Y ou Did Not Pr ogram Y our Local Area C ode
1. Use the review 3 or 4 buttons t o display the number you wan t to dial. Y ou will only
see 10-digit numbers (i.e. 234- 555-1234).

Setting Up the Caller ID Menu
Y ou should not plug the telephone into the modular jack while setting up the Caller ID
menu.
1. Press the menu butt on to enter the menu f eature congur ation mode.

The telephone uses the prog rammed area codes t o determine the number format to

Dialing Mode
This adjustment allows y ou to select tone (touch-tone) or pulse (rotary) dialing.
1. Press the menu butt on until the screen display s TONE PULSE .
2. Press the r eview 3 or 4 buttons to sho w the current dialing mode. The default is
TONE dialing .
3. T o change the dialing mode, pr ess the review 3 or 4 buttons . The displa y alternates
between the two modes.
4. Press the menu butt on again to sav e.
NOTE: The phone will exit Set Up after 20 seconds if no buttons are
pressed.
REMINDER: The time and da te are prog rammed automatically when the
rst Caller ID recor d is successfully r eceiv ed after set up.

O-hook. A term used to describe the phone in its ac tive mode when the handset is o
