Picture noise
• Noise means the picture from the player is poor, with grain
and streaks. The picture may jump about or roll up or down.
• If picture noise occurs please try pressing either [TRACKING -]
or [TRACKING +] button for a few seconds to see which one
improves the picture.
• Adjustment may not improve picture quality if the tape is
damaged or it is a bad recording.
• If some noise remains after adjusting it, VCR heads may be
contaminated or worn.
• In case VCR heads are contaminated, please see 'How to
clean the video header below.
Auto-detect the contamination of VCR heads
• If your VCR has an automatic clogged (contaminated) video head detector, it will display a notice about the
contamination on the screen.
* If you see the notice, please read 'How to clean the video heads', below.
How to clean the video heads
• If you suspect a poor quality picture is caused by contaminated (clogged) video heads, here are some steps you
can take to try and clean them. In severe cases you may need to take the unit to a service centre for cleaning. To
avoid risks of electric shock and damage, only suitably qualified personnel must open this unit !
1 Play a clean high-quality tape for half an hour (it can be blank) and check the playback picture from a recorded
tape again. If this doesn't work...
2 Insert a head-cleaner into player
3 Press “PLAY” for 5 seconds, and then press “FF” for about 10 seconds.
4 Eject the head-cleaner from player
• If the screen is not clean yet, please repeat the above 2 or 3 times more.
• You can purchase a video head cleaner at TV and video stores.
