Nach der Übernahme der Rover Gruppe Mitte der 90er Jahre
begann BMW mit einer Neukreation des legendären Minis.
Der ab 2001 im BMW Works Oxford produzierte neue MINI
aus dem Hause BMW kopiert geradezu perfekt den Stil und
das Aussehen seines berühmten Vorgängers. Die stilistische
Anlehnung an den originellen Kleinwagen, der nach 41
Jahren Produktion im Jahre 2000 zum letzten Mal vom Band
lief, äußert sich insbesondere in den runden Scheinwerfern,
dem charakteristischen Kühlergrill oder dem auffälligen
Tacho im Innenraum. Unverkennbar bleibt die Intention, die
Sympathie für den Mini auch für die moderne Variante zu
sichern, obwohl es sich um ein komplett neu entwickeltes,
eigenständiges Fahrzeug handelt, das mit einer Fülle an
passiver Sicherheit wie Kopf-, Front- und Seitenairbags und
stabilen Seitenaufprallschutz aufwartet. Sehr Vieles wirkt
bekannt, auch wenn es sich um eine gekonnte, retrospektive
Gestaltung mit Rücksicht auf modernen Geschmack handelt.
Das einzigartige Fahrzeug kombiniert die gestalterische
Hommage an den englischen Vorfahren mit top-moderner
Ausstattung und neuester Technik wie Klimaanlage, ABS und
elektronischem Stabilisierungsprogramm. Wie bei dem engli-
schen Namensgeber wird bei dem neuen MINI auf kleinem
Raum möglichst viel Platz untergebracht, auch wenn es der
sportliche Dreitürer, nicht zuletzt der langen Knautschzone
wegen, auf stattliche 3,64 Meter Länge bringt. Der 115 PS
starke Cooper der Generation 1 unterscheidet sich äußerlich
durch ein wahlweise in weiß gehaltenes Dach und den
verchromten Grill von dem ebenfalls ab 2001 erschienen Mini
One und hat schon kurz nach seiner Zulassung ebenso wie
sein Urahn Kultstatus erlangt.
After the take-over of the Rover Group in the mid nineties,
BMW started to recreate the legendary Mini. The New MINI
from BMW, produced since 2001 in the BMW Works at
Oxford, is a well nigh perfect copy of the style and appearance
of its famous predecessor. The stylistic influence of the
original small car that rolled off the line for the last time in
2000, after 41 years in production, is expressed in particular in
the round headlamps, characteristic radiator grille and in the
striking speedometer in the interior. The unmistakeable
intention remains to secure for the modern variant the
affection enjoyed by the original Mini, although it is a
completely redeveloped, independent vehicle, that is served
by a multiplicity of passive safety features, such as head, front
and side airbags and stable side impact protection. A great
deal is familiar, even though it has a retrospective shape with
reference to modern taste. This unique car combines homage
to the shape of its English predecessor with ultra-modern
equipment and the latest technology, such as air conditioning,
ABS and electronic stability programme. As with its English
predecessor or the same name, the new MINI packs as much
room as possible into the smallest space, even though it gives
the sporty three-door version a stately 3.64 m length, not least
due to its long crumple zone. The first generation 115 bhp
Cooper differs externally in that it comes with an optional
white roof and the chrome grille of the Mini One that was also
launched in 2001 and has already achieved the cult status of
its ancestor so soon after its registration.
