AlthoughthewaterproofratingcapacityofRaymarineproducts
exceedsthatcalledforbytheIPX6standard,waterintrusion
andsubsequentequipmentfailuremayoccurifanyRaymarine
equipmentissubjectedtocommercialhighpressurewashing.
Raymarinewillnotwarrantequipmentsubjectedtohighpressure
washing.
EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriate
ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,tominimize
electromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyour
system
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceis
notcompromised.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwherever
possible:
Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcables
carryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesandantennas.
InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreased
to7ft(2m).
Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradar
beamcannormallybeassumedtospread20degreesabove
andbelowtheradiatingelement.
Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatused
forenginestart.Thisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavior
anddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnothave
aseparatebattery.

Ensuringthatthearrowonthepoweranddatacableconnectoris
alignedwiththeredtriangularmarkontheradarscannerconnector,
connectthecabletothescanners’connector,andfullyhand-tighten.
DoNOTuseawrenchoranyothertool.
Note:Iftheantennaconnectorisdisconnectedafterinitial
installation,Raymarinerecommendsthatbeforereconnecting,
youlightlycoattheconnectorthreadwithRenolitAqua2Calcium
grease.
3.3Productgrounding
Importantsafetyinformationforconnectionstoground.
Beforeapplyingpowertothisproduct,ensureithasbeencorrectly
grounded,inaccordancewiththeinstructionsinthisguide.
Groundingrequirements
ThesegroundingrequirementsareapplicableforRaymarine
equipmentsuppliedwithaseparatedrainwireorscreen.
Theproductpowercabledrainconductor(screen)mustbe
connectedtoacommongroundpoint.
Itisrecommendedthatthecommongroundpointisabonded
ground,i.e.withthegroundpointconnectedtobatterynegative,
andsituatedascloseaspossibletothebatterynegativeterminal.
Ifabondedgroundsystemisnotpossible,anon-bondedRF
groundmaybeused.

box.Thejunctionboxshouldprovideaterminalstripwithsufcient
spaceforpowerconnections.Theterminalstripshouldbea
minimumof30Ampratingforpowercores.Itisessentialthatboth
powercoresandthescreen(drain)areconnectedandthatthe
connectionisofverylowresistanceasconsiderablepowerpasses
throughthisconnection.

Donotmounttheradarscannersohighthatitisaffectedbythe
pitchingandrollingofthevessel.
Shadowareasandfalseechoes
Mounttheradarscannerawayfromlargestructuresorequipment,
suchasenginestacks,searchlights,horns,ormasts.Theseobjects
maycauseshadowareasandfalseechoes.Forexample,ifyou
mounttheradarscanneronamast,echoesfromothertargetsmay
bereectedfromthemast.Wetsailsmayalsocauseshadowareas,
soradarperformancemaybereducedintherain.Itisparticularly
importanttoavoidshadowareasnearthebow.Raisingoreven
loweringtheradarscannermayhelptoreducetheseeffects.
Inshadowareasbeyondtheobstructiontherewillbeareductionof
thebeamintensity.Theremaybeablindsectorifthebeamintensity
isnotsufcienttoobtainanechofromanobject.Thismayoccur
evenatcloserange.Forthisreasontheangularwidthandrelative
bearingofanyshadowareamustbedeterminedatinstallation.
Youmaybeabletodetectshadowareasorfalseechoesonyour
multifunctiondisplay.Forexample,seacluttercanbeusedasa
goodindicatorofblindarcs.Darksectorsontheradardisplay
indicatepossibleshadowedareas.Thisinformationshouldbe
postednearthedisplayunitandoperatorsmustbealertfortargets
