Before using Vitro Chef for the first time
Read carefully all the safety instructions contained in this manual.
Before plugging the appliance into a socket, wipe the glass ceramic surface with a soft detergent, rinse with clean water and dry.
Before using it for the first time, heat up the appliance with no food on it for about ten minutes in order to get rid of any smell ori-
ginated during the manufacture process.
The room must be well aired since the appliance can produce a little smoke when turned on for the first time.
If for any reason the glass ceramic surface is cracked or broken, you should not plug in the cable nor use the applian-
ce. There is a risk of electrical shock and serious injury.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Read all the instructions before using Vitro-Chef for the first time.
Every time you use an electrical appliance, you must always follow some basic precaution measures, which include the ones
below:
1. The appliance should be connected to a power supply of the type marked on the appliance. If you are not sure of the type of
power supplied to your home, ask your local power company. You can find all technical data –including the type of power
supply to which the appliance can be connected- on a plate on Vitro-Chef underside.
2. You should only use properly ground sockets.
3. For European devices (GR 495-165-E) the power supply plug must be inserted into a ground outlet.
We recommend connecting this unit to a power switch with a peak surge current capability of up to 30 MA. Check with your
electrician.
4. Do not touch the hot areas of the glass ceramic surface or the stainless steel surfaces in the unit. Use the handles and the
control knob.
5. To protect you against electrical shock, do not sink the power supply cord or plug into water or other liquid.
6. Never try to smother overheated fat or burning oil with water.
7. Never place fuel or inflammable objects on or next to the appliance.
8. Never permit children to touch this appliance. Even when switched off, it can still be very hot!
9. Unplug this appliance from the wall outlet when not using it, before cleaning, before placing objects upon it and before sto-
ring it.
10. When cleaning, use an ordinary detergent or brands labelled as suitable to clean surfaces in direct contact with food.
11. You should check regularly that the power supply cord is not damaged. Do not use damaged power supply plugs or cords. If
the appliance is damaged or does not appear to operate normally, you should return it to the manufacturer or nearest autho-
rized service centre for examination, repair or adjustment.
12. Using accessories not recommended by the manufacturer can damage the appliance.
13. Do not allow the power supply cord to hang over the edge of a table or counter.
14. Do not place the appliance or its power supply cord near or upon a gas oven, an electrical oven or a heater.
15. Do not move the appliance if it is hot or if there is boiling oil or hot food on the surface.
Hazard of falling and hazard of burns
16. In order to unplug this appliance from the wall outlet, you should turn the knob to the “off” position.
17. Use the appliance only for the specified purposes.
18. Longer power supply cords and extension cords are available and can be used with the necessary precautions and according
to specifications. Check the voltage and type of power supply of the longer power supply cord or extension cord in order to
make sure that it matches the specifications on the appliance. You should prevent these kinds of cords from hanging over the
edge of a table or counter, so that children cannot bring down the appliance by pulling the cord.
19. For outdoor use, choose a suitable extension cord with the correct label on it, for instance “W-A” in USA.
20. The connection to an extension cord must be dry and sufficiently far away from the ground socket.
21. Do not use the appliance under an awning, a sunshade or an umbrella.
22. In case of cracks or breakage in the surface, turn off the unit and unplug it.
23. When outdoors, avoid the appliance contact with heavy rains or sprinklers.
24. Never put the appliance into water or another liquid.
25. Store the appliance and extension cord in a dry place out of children’s reach.
26. Never cover the glass-ceramic surface when it is set for cooking. That would cause over-heating and the surface might burst!

This manual must be understood as a part of the appliance. If the appliance is given to a new owner, this manual must be passed
on to her/him too.
