INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
Environment
CAUTION
• Avoid placing the product on or in locations which are
unstable or not level. Such locations may cause the
product to fall down or fall over. This type of situation
presents a danger of personal injury or damage to the

sources, or locations near flammable items, to avoid

Other precautions
Adverse environmental conditions may affect the safe
operation and performance of the product. Install in an
air-conditioned room (recommended room
temperature: around 20°C (68°F), humidity: around
65% RH) and avoid the following locations when
selecting a site for the product.
Avoid locations near a window or with exposure to
direct sunlight.
Avoid locations with vibrations.
Avoid locations with drastic temperature fluctuations.
Avoid locations with direct exposure to hot or cold air.
Other precautions
The power supply cord is used as the main disconnect
device. Ensure that the socket/outlet is
located/installed near the equipment and is easily
accessible.
Handling of plastic bags
WARNING
Keep the plastic bags that are used with this product
away from children. The plastic may cling to their nose
and mouth causing suffocation. ....................................

Cautions when using the product
WARNING
DO NOT place metallic objects or containers with
water (flower vases, flower pots, cups, etc.) on or
near the product. This type of situation presents a
danger of fire or electrical shock should they fall

objects on it, pull it, bend it unnecessarily or cause

If the copier becomes excessively hot, smoke
appears, there is an odd smell, or any other

OFF (O) immediately, remove its power plug from
the outlet and contact your service representative......
If anything harmful (paper clips, water, other fluids,
etc.) falls into the product, turn the main switch to the
copier OFF (O) immediately. Next, remove the power
plug from the outlet to avoid the danger of fire or
electrical shock and then contact your service
representative. If you do not take these steps, there

(1) Main Body
1 Sort tray (When sort copying or group copying, finished copies will
be ejected onto this tray. The Sort tray will automatically lower as
the number of copies increases and will be raised when the number
of copies is minimal.)
2 Non-sort tray (When copying in the Non-sort mode, copies will be
ejected onto the Non-sort tray. The maximum number of copies that
can be stored on the Non-sort tray will differ depending on the size
of copy paper that is being used. Refer to page 69.)
3 Finisher release button (Press this button to separate the Finisher
from the copier.)
4 Front cover (Open this cover if a paper jam occurs inside the
Finisher or when replenishing staples in the stapler holders.)
5 Front cover handle (Use this handle to open the front cover.)
6 Upper cover (Open this cover if a paper jam occurs during paper
ejection.)
7 Scrap hole-punch tank (The scraps left over from the hole puncher

Cautions During Copying
* If copies come out curled or are stacked unevenly, turn the paper in the cassette over.
Note: If the curls in the copies are extraordinarily severe, refer to page 59 and adjust the paper
pressure.

Various Modes
Sort Mode
This mode automatically sorts copies made
from multiple originals into identical sets.
* Finished copies will be ejected face down
onto the Sort tray with each full set shifted
slightly from the previous one. The Sort tray
will automatically lower as the number of
copies increases.
* The maximum number of copies that can be
stored on the Sort tray will differ depending
on the size of copy paper that is being used.
Refer to page 71.
Group Mode
This mode automatically groups copies made
from multiple originals, with all the copies
produced from an individual original grouped
together in one set.
* Finished copies will be ejected face down
onto the Sort tray with each full set shifted
slightly from the previous one. The Sort tray
will automatically lower as the number of
copies increases.
* The maximum number of copies that can be
stored on the Sort tray will differ depending
on the size of copy paper that is being used.

Hole Punch Mode
Copies
(acceptable weight: 45 g/m

can be automatically hole punched.
* The Hole Punch mode can be used in
combination with each of the Sort, Sort-
Staple and Group modes.
Sort-Staple Mode
This mode automatically sorts and then
staples each copy set.
* A maximum of 50 (75-80g/m

) mA4 or A4R (11" x 81/2" or 81/2" x 11") size copies can be stapled
at one time. Up to 30 (75-80g/m
2
) A3 or B4 (11" x 17" or 81/2" x 14") size copies can be stapled
at one time.
Note: Depending upon the paper weight of the paper stock being used, it is possible that the
number of copies that can be stapled will differ from that indicated above.
* 2-position stapling is not available with A4R size paper.
* Finished copies will be ejected face down onto the Sort tray with each full set stapled
separately. The Sort tray will automatically lower as the number of copies increases.
* The maximum number of copies that can be
stored on the Sort tray will differ depending
on the size of copy paper that is being used.

Stacking Mode
If the number of copies to be made in the Non-
sort mode is set to a number greater than the
acceptable limit, the finished copies will be
ejected onto the Sort tray.
* The maximum number of copies that can be
stored on the Non-sort tray will differ
depending on the size of copy paper that is
being used. Refer to page 71.
* If you are using a 62 ppm copier, the first 99
copies will be ejected onto the Non-sort tray
and any copies from 100 onward will all
ejected onto the Sort tray.
* Acceptable copy paper sizes:
A3, B4, A4, A4R (11" x 17", 81/2" x 14",
11" x 81/2", 81/2" x 11")

Operation
Copying in the Sort Mode
1. Select the Sort mode on the operation
panel of your copier.
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook of your
copier for more detailed information on
selecting the desired copy mode.
* Acceptable copy paper sizes:
A3, B4, A4, A4R (11" x 17", 81/2" x 14",
11" x 81/2", 81/2" x 11")
2. Set the originals to be copied in the
Document Feeder.
* If the number of originals exceeds the
acceptable limit for the Document Feeder,
use the Job Build function of your copier
to sort your copies. (Refer to page 28.)
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook for your
copier for more detailed information on
the acceptable number of originals that
can be set in the Document Feeder.
* When setting an original on the platen, a
message will appear after each original is
scanned to confirm whether you want to
scan another original or not. Refer to the
Instruction Handbook of your copier for
further details.
3. Select the desired copy exposure, etc., and
perform the appropriate procedure to start
copying.
* Finished copies will be ejected face down
onto the Sort tray with each full set shifted
slightly from the previous one. The Sort tray
will automatically lower as the number of
copies increases.
* If the Sort tray reaches its maximum
acceptable capacity, a message will be
displayed on the copier. In this case, remove
all copies from the Sort tray.
* The maximum number of copies that can be
stored on the Sort tray will differ depending
on the size of copy paper that is being used.

4. Remove all of the finished copies from the
Sort tray.

Making a Large Number of Copies in the
Sort Mode
If the number of originals to be copied
exceeds the acceptable limit for the Document
Feeder, use the Job Build function of your
copier to sort your copies.
1. Select the Sort mode on the operation
panel of your copier.
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook of your
copier for more detailed information on

selecting an applicable mode.
3. Select the desired paper size and
magnification ratio, etc.
* Acceptable copy paper sizes:
A3, B4, A4, A4R (11" x 17", 8 1/2" x 14",
11" x 8 1/2", 8 1/2" x 11")
4. Confirm the acceptable number of originals
that can be set in the Document Feeder,
and set only that number of originals in the
Document Feeder.
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook for your
copier for more detailed information on
the acceptable sizes and number of
originals that can be set in the Document
Feeder.
* When copying from a large number of
originals, split the originals into smaller sets
and set each group in the Document Feeder
separately but in order from the first to the
last page. The information for all of the
originals will be scanned and stored in the
copiers memory.
5. Continue placing all sets of originals to be
copied in the Document Feeder until all of
the sets have been scanned and stored in
the copiers memory.
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook for your
copier for more detailed information on
setting originals.
6. Press the Print key. Finished copies will be
ejected in multiple groups, face down onto
the Sort tray with each full set shifted
slightly from the previous one.
* If the Sort tray reaches its maximum
acceptable capacity, a message will be
displayed on the copier. In this case, remove
all copies from the Sort tray.
* The maximum number of copies that can be
stored on the Sort tray will differ depending
on the size of copy paper that is being used.

1. Select the Group mode on the operation
panel of your copier.

2. Set the originals to be copied in the

perform the appropriate procedure to start
copying.

* If the Sort tray reaches its maximum
acceptable capacity, a message will be
displayed on the copier. In this case, remove
all copies from the Sort tray.

Copying in the Hole Punch Mode
1. Select the Hole Punch mode on the
operation panel of your copier.
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook of your
copier for more detailed information on
selecting the desired copy mode.
* The Hole Punch mode can be used in
combination with each of the Sort, Sort-
Staple and Group modes.
* Acceptable copy paper weight:
45 g/m
2
- 160 g/m
2
* Hole punching will be accomplished as
shown in the illustration above (as viewed
from the front of the copies).
Units based on metric specifications:
2 or 4 hole punch
Units based on inch specifications:
2 or 3 hole punch
* The position of the holes on each page may
differ very slightly due to the fact that holes
are punched in one sheet at a time.
2. Set the originals to be copied. The finished
copies will be ejected face up onto the Non-
sort tray.
* When setting the originals on the platen,
copy the originals in reverse order from the
last page to the first in order to have the
finished copies ejected in their proper order.
*
If the number of A3 (11" x 17") or B4 (81/2" x 14")
size copies to be made is set to 151 or more or
to 251 or more for A4 (11" x 81/2") or A4R (81/2" x
11") size copies , the Stacking mode will
engage and the finished copies will be ejected
onto the Sort tray.
* If you are using a 62 ppm copier, the first 99
copies will be ejected onto the Non-sort tray
and any copies from 100 onward will all
ejected onto the Sort tray.
* If the Stacking mode does not engage and
the number of finished copies in the Non-sort
tray reaches the acceptable limit, an error
message will be displayed on the copier and
copying will stop. Remove all of the finished
copies from the Non-sort tray and then
resume copying.
* When the Hole Punch mode is used in
combination with either the Sort, Sort-Staple
or Group mode, the finished copies will be
ejected face down onto the Sort tray
regardless of where the originals are set.
3. Select the desired paper size and copy
exposure, etc.
* The copy paper sizes that are acceptable
for hole-punching and the available
positioning and number of holes may
differ depending on the specifications for
your unit.

Copying in the Non-Sort Mode
1. Set the originals to be copied in the
Document Feeder and perform the
appropriate procedure to start copying. The
finished copies will be ejected face down
onto the Non-sort tray.
* If the originals to be copied are set on the
platen, the finished copies will be ejected
face up onto the Sort tray.
*
If the number of A3 (11" x 17") or B4 (81/2" x 14") size copies to be made is set to 151 or more or to
251 or more for A4 (11" x 81/2") or A4R (81/2" x 11") size copies , the Stacking mode will engage and
the finished copies will be ejected onto the Sort tray.
* If you are using a 62 ppm copier, the first 99 copies will be ejected onto the Non-sort tray and any

Copying in the Interrupt Copy Mode
1. Select the Interrupt copy mode on the
operation panel of your copier and perform
the appropriate procedure to start copying.
* Refer to the Instruction Handbook of your
copier for more detailed information on
the Interrupt copy mode.
* If the present copy job is being ejected onto
the Sort tray, the copies made in the
Interrupt copy mode will be ejected on the
Non-sort tray. If the present copy job is being
ejected onto the Non-sort tray, the new
copies will be ejected on the Sort tray.
2. Replace the present original(s) with the
one(s) to be copied.
3. Select the desired paper size and number
of copies to made, etc.
4. Press the Print key. Copying will begin and
the finished copies will be ejected onto the
Sort tray or Non-sort tray.
5. After Interrupt copying is completed,
perform the required operation on your
copier to release the Interrupt copy mode.
6. Reset the previous original(s) and press the
Print key. The copy job that was interrupted
will then resume.

Stapling Unit
* The Stapling Unit has two separate staplers
for stapling documents in two different
places. Accordingly, when staples run out in
either stapler, they must be replenished
separately.
* If the staples run out, contact your service
representative.
Refilling the Stapling Unit
If a message appears on the copier indicating
that staples have run out, the staple holder(s)
need to be replenished with staples.
1. Grasp the front cover handle and open the
front cover towards you.
2. Grasp the internal tray handle and carefully
pull the internal tray out towards you.
3. Grasp the Stapling Unit handle and lift up
the Stapling Unit. The two staplers will
become visible.
4. Pinch the staple holder release lever as
shown in the illustration and lower it to
release the lock.
5. Pull out the staple holder.
6. Remove the empty staple cartridge from the
staple holder.
7. Remove the new staple cartridge from its
box.
8. Hold the staple holder in one hand and the
new staple cartridge in the other and insert
the new staple cartridge making sure the
direction of insertion is correct.

* The arrow on the staple cartridge indicates
the correct direction of insertion.
9. Make sure the new staple cartridge is
completely inserted all the way into the
staple holder and then remove the paper
tape covering the staple cartridge.
10. Replace the staple holder back in its
original position in the Stapling Unit. Once
it has been fully inserted, it will click into
place.
11. If necessary, repeat steps 4 - 10 to
replenish the staples in the other staple
holder.
12. Lift up the Stapling Unit slightly and then
lower it into its original position.
13. Replace the internal tray in its original
position all the way into the Finisher.
14. Close the front cover securely.

Clearing a Staple Jam
1. Grasp the front cover handle and open the
front cover towards you.
2. Grasp the internal tray handle and carefully
pull the internal tray out towards you.
3. Grasp the Stapling Unit handle and lift up
the Stapling Unit. The two staplers will
become visible.
* There is one stapler located toward the front
of the machine and one located towards the
rear. Staple jams need to be cleared from
each stapler separately. The procedure for
clearing staple jams is the same for both
staplers.
4. Pinch the staple holder release lever as
shown in the illustration and lower it to
release the lock.
5. Pull out the staple holder.
6. Push up on the tab A on the protective
faceplate in order to raise the faceplate.
7. Remove the jammed staple from the tip of
the staple cartridge (the end where staples
are set).
8. Lower the protective faceplate back into its
original position.
9. Replace the staple holder back in its
original position in the Stapling Unit. Once
it has been fully inserted, it will click into
place.
10. Repeat steps 4 - 9 to check the other
stapler and remove any jammed staples
from that stapler as well.
11. Lift up the Stapling Unit slightly and then
lower it into its original position.
12. Replace the internal tray in its original
position all the way into the Finisher.
13. Close the front cover securely.

Disposing of Hole-Punch
Scraps
* Leave the main switch on your copier turned
ON ( | ) while performing the procedure to
remove hole-punch scraps.
1. Hold down the Finisher release button and
pull the Finisher away from the copier.
* The scrap hole-punch tank is located on the
coupling section between the Finisher and
your copier.
2. Pull on the 2 knobs, one on each side of the
scrap hole-punch tank, to release the lock.
3. Grasp the scrap hole-punch tank handle
and remove the tank from the Finisher.
* Be careful not to spill any of the hole-
punch scraps during removal of the tank.
4. Dispose of the hole-punch scraps
appropriately.
5. Reinsert the tank by first setting the open
end of the tank in place.
6. Then set the bottom end of the tank in place
as well.
7. Push in on the 2 knobs, one on each side of
the scrap hole-punch tank, to lock the tank
back in place.
8. Reattach the Finisher to your copier.

If ejected paper comes
out curled…
If ejected paper comes out curled, open the
front cover and use the pressure adjustment
lever to change the paper pressure to any one
of 5 levels.
If paper that is ejected onto the Sort tray A is
curling upward, or paper that is ejected onto

the pressure adjustment lever to a larger

If paper that is ejected onto the Sort tray A is
curling downward, or paper that is ejected
onto the Non-sort tray B is curling upward,
set the pressure adjustment lever to a smaller
number. In this case, decreasing the number
of the setting will lessen the curl in the paper.
Adjustment procedure
1 Pull the pressure adjustment lever out
towards you.
2 Turn the pressure adjustment lever to the
desired setting.
3 Push the pressure adjustment lever back
in.

Clearing Paper Jams
* If a paper jam occurs, copying will stop and
the paper jam will be indicated on the
operation panel of your copier.
* Leave the main switch on your copier turned
ON ( | ) while performing the procedure to
clear the jam.
* Once the jam is cleared, the operation panel
on your copier will return to the status and
settings prior to the jam.
Paper jam in the coupling section
between the Finisher and your copier
When the illustration shown above appears on
the operation panel of your copier, there is a
paper jam in the coupling section between the
Finisher and your copier.
1. Hold down the Finisher release button and
pull the Finisher away from the copier.
2. Remove the jammed paper from the
coupling section without tearing it.
3. If the jammed paper cannot be removed
from the coupling section, open both the
upper and front covers to the Finisher.
4. Turn conveyor knob A in a clockwise
direction. The paper should be easier to
remove.
5. Remove the jammed paper.
6. Reattach the Finisher to your copier.

Paper jam in the Sort tray
When the illustration shown above appears on
the operation panel of your copier, there is a
paper jam in the Sort tray.
1. Lift up the Non-sort tray. 2. If the jammed paper is visible in the eject
slot, pull it out in the direction shown in the
illustration without tearing it.
3. Grasp the front cover handle and open the
front cover towards you.
4. Turn the conveyor knob in a clockwise
direction. The jammed paper will be
returned to the internal tray and the internal
tray can now be pulled out.
5. Grasp the internal tray handle and carefully
pull the internal tray out towards you.
* Once the internal tray is pulled out, DO NOT
attempt to move the internal tray guide B.
If this guide is moved, there is a danger of
damage to the Finisher.
6. Remove the jammed paper without tearing
it.
7. Replace the internal tray in its original
position all the way into the Finisher.

8. Close the front cover securely.

Paper jam in the conveyor section
When the illustration shown above appears on
the operation panel of your copier, there is a
paper jam in the conveyor section of the
internal tray.
1. Grasp the front cover handle and open the
front cover towards you.
2. Grasp the conveyor guide handle C and
open the conveyor guide C to the right.
3. If there is any jammed paper to be
removed, remove it without tearing it.
4. Grasp the conveyor guide handle D and
open the conveyor guide D to the right.

6. Replace the conveyor guides C and D in
their original positions.
7. Grasp the internal tray handle and carefully
pull the internal tray out towards you.
* Once the internal tray is pulled out, DO NOT

8. If there is any jammed paper in the internal
tray, remove it without tearing it.
9. Replace the internal tray in its original
position all the way into the Finisher.
