7.2 i-TTL flash mode
Most Nikon cameras support i-TTL flash mode
( ).
Before shooting, the flash unit fires a series of bare-
ly visible measuring preflashes.
The camera evaluates the reflected preflash light.
Depending on the result of the evalua-tion, the sub-
sequent flash exposure is adapted by the camera to
suit the given shot situation (see camera operating
instructions for further details).
Setting the mode of operation
• Switch on the flash unit with the
button.
The start screen appears. Thereafter, the flash
unit always switches on with the mode of operati-
on that was used last
(e.g. M flash mode).
• Press the button and the drop-down
menu will appear.
• Use the buttons to select the operating
mode.
• Press the
° button and confirm the selected
operating mode.
• Set a suitable mode of operation on the camera,
e.g. P, S, A etc.
• Tap the shutter release to transfer data between
the flash unit and the camera.

7.3 i-TTL-BL flash mode
This digital flash mode is only supported by came-
ras if lenses are used that transmit distance data to
the camera (for example, "D-AF Nikkor lens"). When
shooting this data is taken into consideration in
addition in adjusting the flash exposure.
Setting the mode of operation
• Switch on the flash unit with the
button. The start screen appears. Thereafter, the
flash unit always switches on with the mode of
operation that was used last.
• Set a suitable mode of operation on the camera,
e.g. P, S, A etc.
• Tap the shutter release to transfer data between
the flash unit and the camera.
• Press the button and the drop-down
menu will appear.
• Use the buttons to select the opera-
ting mode.
• Press the
° button and confirm the selected
operating mode.
The setting will take effect immediately.
The BL flash mode is not supported on some came-
ras, when the SPOT exposure metering is active.
This flash mode (symbol „BL") is automatically
deleted or can not be activated.
