Fault Possible cause Remedy
Engine will not start. The tank is empty. Fill with diesel.
Oil or air in the fuel line. Visit a specialist garage.
Diesel filter is blocked. Visit a specialist garage.
Battery does not provide any
current.
Check the battery, charge it or exchange it.
Loose or corroded battery
parts.
Check the battery. Tighten the contacts.
Clean the corroded contacts with a wire
brush, tighten again and grease them using
terminal grease.
Defective fuse. Check and exchange where necessary.
In winter: the oil has incorrect
viscosity.
See notes in the engine manual.
The starting electrics are
defective.
Visit a specialist garage.
The engine does not run
evenly, or splutters.
There is a fault with the
electrical connections.
Get the engine setting checked.
The fuel line is blocked. Visit a specialist garage.
Impure fuel. Visit a specialist garage.
Air filter is heavily soiled. Clean the air filter or exchange it (see engine
manual).
The engine overheats. The
engine temperature warning
light lights up.
Switch the appliance off immediately and
allow it to cool down!
Coolant is not sufficient. Check it and top it up where necessary.
Dirty / defective cooling system. Visit a specialist garage.
The air filter is missing or is dirty. See engine manual.
Oil is not sufficient. Top up the oil. See engine manual.
Unusual level of smoke from
the engine.
Switch the appliance off immediately!
Too much engine oil. Check the oil level. See engine manual.
Defective engine. Get the engine checked in a specialist
garage.
Heavy vibrations, unusual
noises.
Damaged engine or defective
running gear.
Switch the appliance off immediately!
Visit a specialist garage!
Electrical defect. Defective fuse. Exchange fuse.
Oil pressure light lights up
during operation.
Oil is not sufficient. Switch the appliance off immediately!
Check the oil level and top it up where
necessary.
Visit a specialist garage where necessary.
The glow plug pilot light
does not light up when the
ignition is switched on.
Defective bulb. Visit a specialist garage.
