NON-CONTACT INFRARED
FOREHEAD THERMOMETERGB GBEnglish EnglishInstructions and guarantee
It is important to read all instructions and warnings contained in
this booklet thoroughly before use and to look after the booklet
carefully.
Your new frontal thermometer measures body temperature precisely
and painlessly. The new infrared recording technology produces greater
reliability and longer life for the instrument.
The innovative non-contact mode makes it ideal for measurements on
children, even during sleep.
It is easy to use, allowing recording of body temperature and ambient
temperature.
With a large LCD display for easy reading that shows the ambient
temperature continuously. It has an acoustic signal to indicate body
temperature measurement completed, and has automatic shut-off after
one minute of inactivity which prolongs battery life.
It records the temperature in Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F). It stores
the last 25 measurements to allow checking for changes in the readings.
NB: The temperature shown on the display is equivalent to oral
temperature, which means the temperature measured at the
forehead is translated as if the temperature had been recorded
in the mouth.

GENERAL WARNINGS
1) Self-measuring is for checking, not diagnosis or treatment.
Unusual values should always be discussed with your doctor.
Under no circumstances should you alter the dosages of any
medication prescribed by your doctor.
2) The forehead thermometer is a sensitive instrument. Handle
with care and do not expose it to mechanical shocks. Do not
squeeze, bend, drop or take apart the thermometer.
3) Keep out of reach of children.
4) Do not expose the thermometer to extreme temperatures or to
temperature is affected by many factors:
Personal characteristics (individual metabolism)
Age (infants’ and toddlers’ body temperature is higher and decreases
with age). In children, temperature varies with greater intensity, speed
and frequency.
• Clothing
Outside air temperature
Time of day (in the morning body temperature is lower and increases
during the day)
Motor and mental activities carried out
Measurement method
Phase of the menstrual cycle
Bear in mind that skin temperature is particularly influenced by ambient
temperature, and that underarm temperature measurements are less
reliable than oral and rectal recordings.
The temperature measured at the forehead is reliable because the
temporal artery that carries blood to the brain passes a few mm from
the skin of the forehead.
So your new forehead thermometer with infrared probe measures the
temperature of the heat emitted by the blood in the artery that passes
under your skin. This method of recording is valued as it is non-invasive,
accurate and reliable.
The thermometer and the person must have both been in the room
in which the measurement will take place at least 30 minutes
before taking the temperature.
The table below shows a list of “normal” average temperatures. However
it is recommended to familiarise yourself with your own normal
temperature when you are physically well so that you can
interpret the different values recorded.
METHOD OF MEASURING AVERAGE NORMAL TEMPERATURE
UNDERARM 36.5°C
ORAL 37°C
RECTAL 37.5°C
EAR 37°C
the direct rays of the sun, and do not store it near sources of
heat. Store in a clean, dry place.
5) Do not touch the probe with your fingers and do not dismantle
the thermometer.
6) Do not immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
7) Do not use the forehead thermometer to measure rectal, oral
or underarm temperatures.
8) Measurement accuracy can be compromised by: pronounced
sweating of the forehead, taking vasoconstricting medication
and skin irritations.
9) Clean the forehead where the probe will be positioned before
each recording.
10) Measure the temperature away from direct sunlight and from
wind.
11) This thermometer must be used to record the temperature of
the forehead (at a distance of 1 to 3 cm).
12) Holding the thermometer in your hand for too long can cause
a lower recording of body temperature by the probe.
13) Do not measure temperature for thirty minutes after either
physical activity or a bath.
FEVER
Fever should be considered a symptom and not a disease. In general, it is
a sign that the body is fighting an infection.
In fact, it is a defence mechanism of the body characterised by an increase
in body temperature above 37°C and increased heart and breathing rates.
Normal temperature within the body is about 37.5°C and this is in fact the
value measured with the rectal method.
The temperature measured in the mouth is about 0.5°C less (37°C) while
the underarm recording is 1°C less (36.5°C).
From this we can deduce the importance of a correct recording of the
temperature that should be carried out with an accurate instrument, and
if possible not at a time when body temperature may be increased for
physiological reasons (upon waking, after meals). In a healthy person the
Each type of thermometer is used to measure body temperature
in a specific part of the body. Forehead thermometers are only for
measurements on the forehead. Ear thermometers only for measuring in
the ear. Mercury thermometers are for traditional rectal, underarm and
oral recording. Depending on the point where the measurement is made, a
different temperature value is obtained.
The variation can be between 0.2-1°C. You cannot compare the
temperatures measured with different measuring methods. It is therefore
necessary to consider, when self-diagnosing or reporting to your doctor,
the type of thermometer and where on the body the temperature was
measured.

INSERTION/REPLACEMENT OF BATTERIES
The battery must be replaced as soon as the display shows the “battery
low” symbol (see Image 1). Before replacing the battery, check that the
thermometer is in standby mode to avoid damaging the mechanism.
1) To open the battery cover, insert a pointed object into the hole above
the battery compartment (see fig. 1), push down and at the same time
slide the cover in the direction of the arrow.
2) Insert a pointed object, such as a pen, into the battery compartment
and lift the battery so as to remove it.
3) Insert a new battery under the metal hook to the left and press down
the battery to the right until you hear a click. The positive terminal
must be facing up. At this point the thermometer will emit a short
beep.
