In the last stage – consisting of the Post Filter with activated carbon granulate -
any foul odour or taste is removed from the water.
2) Important! How to get the Katadyn Bottleready for first-time use
Before use, new filter elements or elements stored for longer periods of time
must first be prepared in a few easy steps:
1. Take the filter off the bottle lid by pulling and twisting in any direction (see out-
line drawing 1 item 1)
2. Use a twisting motion to pull the Virustat cartridge from the Post Filter (acti-
vated carbon filter. see outline drawing 1 item 2). Remove the red label from
the tip of the Virustat‚ cartridge (see outline drawing 1 item 3).
3. Reassemble the Virustat‚ cartridge and the Post Filter. Turn the elements into
each other, applying slight pressure (see outline drawing 1 item 2), making
sure that the O-ring (see outline drawing 1 below B) and the parts are sea-
ted/assembled correctly.
4. Push the filter firmly, but without excessive force, into the lid (see outline dra-
wing 1 item 1)
5. Fill the bottle up to the filling level line with clear water (see level marking) and
turn the lid (with the filter attached) anti-clockwise until it sits firmly on the
bottle.The first filling must be squeezed through the filter by hand. Hold the
bottle upright and squeeze with both hands. The first squirt of water will be
black. This is carbon dust rinsed out from the activated carbon filter. Don't
worry: the dust is washed out only if the carbon dust is dry. Also, activated
carbon ingested orally is harmless.
6. Fill the bottle again. The second filling will soften the iodine resin. Squeeze
the bottle once and leave it standing for two hours. When using a new car-
tridge or when using the bottle after longer periods of non-use, the iodine
resin must be soaked for about two hours. Once the resin is wet, you don't
need to repeat this step.
7. Before drinking, pull out the mouthpiece. It has two positions (outline drawing
1 item 4). To close the outlet, push the mouthpiece back in. Do not remove the
mouthpiece.
Please note
1. The drinking bottle reaches its full flow capacity only after it has been filled
and emptied a number of times (flow increases with use). But the flow veloci-
ty is lower than in a normal drinking bottle. This is inevitable because of the fil-
tration stages in the bottle, but it also shows that the filters are working pro-
perly.
2. Suck the water from the bottle while squeezing the bottle. Be patient, do not
"pump". Like with a straw, there is a 2 to 4 second "thirsty stretch" before the
water begins to flow. Cheers!
3. Always keep the bottle upright. If you place the bottle upside down or at an
angle, the water will not flow through the cleansing cartridge.
4. The blue "antenna" at the top lid of the bottle is a valve. Do not remove it.
When squeezing the bottle, this valve helps to suck air back into the bottle.
5. The Katadyn Bottle is first and foremost a water filter, designed to make untre-
ated water in nature or in hotels water drinkable and fit for human use. It is not
designed for everyday use at home.
