1. Getting Star ted
1.1 Installing the Batteries
Y our device is po wered by 2 AAA batteries (included).
1. T urn the unit o and turn it over .
2. Open the battery cover on the back of the unit b y pushing in the direc tion of the
arrow .
3. Install the batteries follo wing the +/–
markings in the battery compartment.
Important: Be sure that the batteries are
installed correctly . W rong polarity may damage
the unit.
4. Replace the battery cov er .
Note: Replace the batteries when you see an alert on the screen.
W arning! If the batteries wear out completely , or if you take more than a few seconds
while changing the batteries, an y user entered information may be erased . Y ou should
always keep written copies of y our impor tant information.

3.4 Uncertain Spellings
If you are uncertain about how to spell
a word , t ype the por tion of the word
you do know , and type a question mar k
(?) in place of each unknown letter .

prexes ,suxes,spaces,symbols ,orany
number of letters. Note : Thisfeatureis
notavailablefortheBritannicaC oncise

3.5 Inections/Conjugations
Inected Form Searching
Thedeviceisequippedwithasmart
system to r etrieve results from an
inectedword.F orexample,whenyou
type “at e” , the device will retrieve r esults
from the wor d “ eat ” . For a w ord with
multiple parts of speech (e.g. the word
“r ecord” is both a noun and a verb), both
denitionswillshow .
Looking Up Inec tions
Wheninectionsareavailabletoaw ord,
the function label CONJ appears . Press
C ONJtoviewtheinec tions.Somewords
may have multiple parts of speech, press
/ to select the one you want and

Another way to look up w ords in the
dictionaries is by highlighting them in
an entry. Note: this f eature may not be
available on all screens .

Searching for a Phrase
Press SEAR CH and t ype a keyword to
match phrase(s) with the keyword . I f
your search r etur ns no matches, try other
forms of the wor d, including the root
word ,ifyouhavetypedtheinected
form. Acc ents must be t yped to deliver
matches.
