8.4. Preliminary remarks on installation
Remember that:
The installation must be performed by qualified personnel;
All local and national laws and European Standards must be complied with when installing and using the product.
In Italy the reference is the standard UNI 10683;
In the case of installation in condominiums it is necessary an offer with positive recommendation of the
administrator;
In the case of installation in public places, check and comply with local regulations for these installations.
The product is designed to operate in all weather conditions. In case of special conditions, as strong wind, safety
systems may intervene forcing the switch off of the product. (if any)
Some indications of a general nature are given below, which do not replace the checking against the local standards
and do not bring any liability concerning the installer’s work.
8.5. Checking the suitability of the installation room
The volume of the room must be greater than that indicated in the technical table
The floor must be able to support the weight of the product and its accessories* (see the note in the paragraph
on heat protection)
Make sure that the product is levelled
Do not install in rooms where there is a risk of fire or explosion.
In Italy, check compatibility pursuant to UNI 10683 and UNI 7129 in the presence of gas products.
8.6. Heat protection and safety distances
All the surfaces of the building adjacent to the product must be protected against overheating.
The insulation measures to be taken depend on the type of surfaces present.
The product must be installed in accordance with the following safety conditions:
Minimum distance from any combustible materials: see the declaration of performance on the website
Place the product on a level surface
The diameter of the smoke outlet is not the diameter of the chimney system. The chimney
system must be sized according to national and local regulations.
In particular, (non-exhaustive list) refer to EN 13384, EN 1443, EN 1856, EN 1457 and to all local
regulations.
Avoid the infiltration of condensation water through the chimney flue. If necessary, install an
anti-condensation ring - ask your chimney sweep.
Damage caused by condensation water is not covered by the warranty.
In some countries, in special conditions, multiple chimney flue installations are allowed.
According to regional regulations, additional safety systems are required when connecting to
multiple chimney flues. Your chimney sweep/technician is available for further information.
30
In the case of installation with a wall made of wood or other flammable material, the smoke exhaust pipe must be
adequately insulated.
In the case of installation on a floor made of flammable and/or combustive material or with an insufficient load-bearing
capacity, it is advisable to place the product on a load distribution plate.
8.7. Chimney system (Smoke duct, chimney flue and chimney pot)
This chapter is written in accordance with European Standards EN 13384, EN 1443, EN 1856, EN 1457.
The installer must take these Standards and any other local regulations into account.
This manual is in no way to be considered as a replacement for current regulations.
The product must be connected to a suitable smoke exhaust system that guarantees the safe and complete
evacuation of the smoke produced by combustion.
Before positioning the product, the installer must make sure that the chimney flue is suitable.
8.8. Smoke duct, chimney flue
The smoke duct (duct connecting the fire box smoke outlet to the chimney flue inlet) and the chimney flue must,
among other regulatory requirements, in general:
Receive the smoke coming from only one product (it cannot receive the smoke coming from several products);
in some countries there are specific regulations: it is the responsibility of the installer to assess compliance with
local regulations.
Have a predominantly vertical development.
Not have any counter-sloping sections.
Have a preferably circular inner cross-section and in any case with a ratio between sides of less than 1.5.
End on the roof with a suitable chimney pot: it is forbidden to discharge directly from the wall or towards enclosed
spaces, even if outdoors.
Be made of materials with fire reaction class A1 pursuant to UNI EN 13501 or similar national Standard.
Be suitably certified, with an appropriate chimney plate if metal.
Maintain the initial section or vary it only immediately above the product outlet and not along the chimney flue
8.9. Smoke duct
If in metal, it must be provided with CE marking (EN 1856-2) or similar national legislation;
It cannot be made of flexible metal material
To control the flow we recommend a damper in case of high draft
8.10. The chimney flue
In addition to the general requirements applicable to the smoke duct and to the chimney flue, the chimney flue:
Must only be used to discharge smoke.
Must be correctly sized to meet smoke evacuation requirements (EN 13384-1 non-exhaustive example)
Is preferably insulated, made of steel and with a circular inner cross-section. If rectangular, the edges must
normally have a radius of not less than 20 mm and a ratio between internal dimensions <1.5.
Normally have a minimum height of 1.5 metres.
Maintain a constant cross-section.
Be waterproof and thermally insulated to ensure draught.
Preferably have a collection chamber for unburnt material and any condensation.
If pre-existing, it must be cleaned, to avoid fire hazards.
31
8.11. Ducted system
In addition to the general requirements applicable to the smoke duct and to the chimney flue, the ducted system:
Must operate under negative pressure.
Must be inspectable.
Must comply with local regulations.
8.12. The chimney pot
Must be windproof.
Must have an inner cross-section equivalent to that of the chimney flue and an outlet smoke passage cross-
section equal to at least twice the inner cross-section of the chimney flue.
In the case of paired chimney flues (which should be at least 2 m apart), the chimney pot that receives the solid
fuel product discharge or that of the highest floor must be at least 200 cm above the other.
Must go beyond the reflux area (in Italy, refer to Standard UNI 10683)
Must allow for maintenance operations to be performed on the chimney
8.13. External air intake
To replenish the oxygen burned during stove operation, it is necessary to provide a suitable external air intake in the
installation room.
The air intake must preferably be located at floor level and must have a passing surface of at least 200 cm² (Ø 16).
Alternatively, it is possible to draw the air for combustion directly from the outside.
Connect a Ø 10 cm pipe directly to the back of the product, applying a protection grille which must not reduce the
useful through section. The diameter of the pipe depends on the pressure drops.
It is advisable not to exceed 3 meters in length depending on the draft of the flue pipe.
32
The inflowing air can come from an adjacent room provided that:
The flow does not encounter any obstacles as it travels though permanent openings communicating with the
outside
The room adjacent to the installation room is never depressurised with respect to outside.
The adjacent room is not used as a garage or for activities causing a risk of fire, nor is it a bathroom or a bedroom.
The adjacent room is not a common room of the building
In Italy, Standard UNI 10683 indicates that ventilation is sufficient even if the pressure difference between the external
and the internal environment is maintained at 4 Pa or less
The installer who issues the declaration of conformity is responsible for this.

10. FUEL: WOOD
USER/INSTALLER
The product is designed to burn wood logs or sawdust logs.
Use dry wood logs (max humidity 20%)
Use logs of length (as per manual)
The use of damp wood leads to fouling of the product and the barrel, the risk of smoke and a lower yield than
declared.
Each type of wood has different characteristics, which also affect the combustion efficiency.
The data shown in this manual are with the wood used during the certification.
Generally speaking, wood can have a calorific value of 4.6 kWh/kg while fresh cut has a calorific value of around 2
kWh/kg
In general, we recommend beech, elm, or in any case class A1 wood in compliance with UNI EN ISO 17225-5
Pay attention to the prolonged use of wood rich in aromatic oils (e.g. eucalyptus). It can deteriorate cast iron
components.
Use the recommended quantities of wood.
An overload causes overheating resulting in damage:
possible deformation of the internal parts;
possible irreversible changes in the colour of the paint on the metal parts
for which neither Edilkamin nor the retailer will be able to answer.
For the protection of the environment and for safety reasons, DO NOT burn, among other
materials: plastic, painted wood, coal, bark waste.
The use of other fuels may damage the product.
DO NOT USE THE PRODUCT AS AN INCINERATOR.
41
11. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
USER/INSTALLER
The use of fuel other than the recommended wood may cause damage to the product
When the product is hot, do not place anything on the product
Be careful not to touch the smoke exhaust pipe if hot.
Expansion
Like all products, it heats up and cools down during the various phases. This results in normal
expansion.
This expansion may result in slight noises which are not a cause for complaint.
Smells
During the first start-ups, you may smell paint, but the smell will disappear in a short time.
Start the product in a well-ventilated room the first times it is used.
The product can be operated only after assembling the covers.
Use the glove provided to open the door
42
11.1. Training before use
In particular, to use it in the best way possible, we suggest discussing the following topics with the technician:
Operation
Fuel
Ignition
What to do in the event of problems
Use suitable for installation conditions
11.2. Steps for the first start-up
Be sure to have read and understood the contents of this manual.
Remove all flammable components from the product (manuals, labels, etc.). In particular, remove any labels from
the glass.
For the initial ignition of the hearth, always use the smallest wood logs.
Use the larger wood logs to re-fuel the fire.
Always place the wood well deep in the hearth, almost in contact with the rear wall of the same, so that even if it
slips, it does not come into contact with the glass.
11.3. Cold fire ignition
Check that the existing ash bed is not too high. If the ash bed becomes too high, there may be the risk that when
the firebox door is opened to add wood, any fragments of embers fall out of the firebox.
Place the air valve adjustment lever in the “fully open” position. The air for combustion will flow intensely to the
wood
in the firebox, to quickly achieve good combustion.
Place the wood in the hearth without cramming it excessively. Place an igniter between the wood logs, and light
it. Never use materials such as petrol, alcohol and similar to light the wood.
At this point, close the swing door and monitor for a few minutes. If the fire goes out, slowly open the door, put
another igniter between the logs and turn it back on.
11.4. Power supply with a hot hearth
Add wood when the fuel has been consumed almost to the state of embers.
Wearing the glove, slowly open (to avoid the formation of vortices which can cause fumes to escape) the hinged
door.
Add the desired quantity of wood to the firebox, placing it on the existing embers (within the quantity limits indicated
in the technical table).
The functioning of the product changes with the draught of the flue and the adjustment of the combustion air valve
The technician is responsible for teaching the customer how to use and perform maintenance
on the product.
Do not make changes to the installation conditions on your own initiative (including air
intakes)
43
11.5. Low draught operation
To draw in the air for combustion and to discharge the fumes, the firebox needs the draught exerted by the flue.
If the draught is weak, initially light a “starter” fire using small ignition material.
Once the correct draught has been restored, it will be possible to introduce fuel.
11.6. Heating air (convection)
The hot air arrives in the room with natural motion (natural convection) without the aid of fans and heats by radiation

13. MAINTENANCE
USER/INSTALLER
Before performing any maintenance operation, disconnect the product
from the mains power supply, if present
Regular maintenance is the basis for the proper operation of the product.
A lack of maintenance prevents the product from operating smoothly.
Any problems due to a lack of maintenance will invalidate the warranty.
13.1. Daily maintenance
Operations to be performed, with the product switched off, cold.
A suitable vacuum cleaner is required.
The entire procedure takes a few minutes.
The characters of the safety information are larger according to the standards
All cleaning operations of all parts must be carried out with the product cold
47
The drawings are only indicative but not always refer to a specific model
48
13.1.1. Cleaning the glass
Clean the glass only when it is cold. Use a dry brush and, if necessary, a specific detergent: spray a little detergent
on the glass and clean with a cloth. There are specific products that can be used to clean the glass (see our
Glasskamin price list).
13.1.2. Cleaning of the external parts
To clean the coating, do not use aggressive detergents.
Do not wet with cold water when the coating is hot, because the thermal shock could cause damage.
13.2. Cleaning the flue
By qualified personnel (see paragraph “Season maintenance”).
We recommend doing it before the season of use and whenever you notice that a layer of soot and tar, an easily
flammable substance, has formed inside.
Encrustations, in the presence of high temperatures and sparks, can ignite with serious consequences for both the
flue and the home.
Do not spray the cleaning product onto the painted parts or on the door gaskets.
49
13.3. Seasonal maintenance
USER/INSTALLER
It consists of general internal and external cleaning.
Remember that seasonal maintenance by a qualified technician, and according to national and local regulations, is
necessary.
13.4. Repairs
To be carried out only by licensed Edilkamin retailers/technical service centres. The names of the contracted and
licensed Edilkamin technical service centres and retailers are available ONLY on www.edilkamin.com.
13.5. Summer break
During the period of non-use, leave all doors , hatches and covers of the product closed.
In particularly humid areas, consider disconnecting the smoke fitting, and inserting a suitable product into the
combustion chamber to absorb moisture (e.g. desiccant salt bags, antioxidant tablets).
13.6. Spare parts
For any spare parts, contact the retailer or the technician.
Have any repairs carried out only by licensed Edilkamin retailers/technical service centres.
The names of the contracted and licensed Edilkamin technical service centres and retailers are available ONLY
on www.edilkamin.com.
The use of non-original components causes risks to the product and relieves Edilkamin from any liability for any
resulting damage. It also invalidates the warranty, as it is considered tampering.
Any unauthorised modifications are prohibited.
Seasonal maintenance is performed by the technical service centre, in accordance with local
and national regulations. The technician can find instructions on the website.
In the case of very frequent use of the product, it is advisable to clean the smoke flue and duct
every 3 months.
In any case, clean the chimney system at least once a year (check whether there are
regulations in your country).
If regular inspections and cleaning are not carried out, there will be an increased risk of fire in
the chimney.
