RF Repeater
INSTAT 868-rep
1 Use
Radio Frequency Repeater for INSTAT 868 r…
(Room temperature controller).
• Increases the distance of radio transmission
between INSTAT 868-r… RF-thermostats and
INSTAT 868-a… receivers.
• Improves the received signal quality of a
receiver.
2 Features
• Amplifies the radio signal of INSTAT 868-r..
thermostats
• 2 Repeater can be used in sequence
• The repeater inserts it self automatically into
already existing radio links of the INSTAT 868
system.
• Only one repeater for many existing radio links
• Automatic working without any action from
user
• Indication of received signal strength via 3 LEDs
• Indication of available mains power
Attention 1!
The radio receiver may be installed only by a
specialist in compliance with the circuit dia-
gram enclosed in the top housing cover or in
compliance with these instructions.
The current safety regulations must be
observed.
In order to achieve class of protection II,
adequate installation measures must be
taken.
This electronic device, which is looped into
the connection lead, is intended for tem-
perature control in dry and closed rooms
only.
This electronic device was created according
DIN EN 60730, it operates according working
principle type 1.
3 Functional description
The INSTAT 868-rep is an amplifier for RF signals.
The repeater repeats the received signals auto-
matically.
Only signals from INSTAT 868 transmitters will be
amplified.
3.1 Function of the Lamps
Lamp mains power available
No lamp
no or very low signal power
(not enough for repeating)
Lamp 1
low signal power
Lamp 2
good signal power
Lamp 3
very good signal power
3.2 Installation
Installation: e.g.
• Directly on the wall
• If necessary, on conduit box, by means of
ARA 1,7 E pattress.
Electrical connection
To make this connection, follow this:
• Remove the cover (snap fix on left side of
cover)
• Remove top part of housing
• Make the connection in compliance with the
circuit diagram (see top part of housing)
The repeater now repeats the received signals
automatically.
There is no user action needed to add the device
into existing radio links.
3.3 Location
The Repeater should be located in a proper dis-
tance from the transmitter
The right distance will be reached when lamp 2
or 3 are active.
Note: Maximum 2 repeaters can work in
sequence. E.g. if the normal transmission distance
in the environment will be 30m, with the repeater
this distance can be extended up to 90 m.
Attention:
Danger of electric shock, disconnect device
from power supply
3.4 Testing the function
When lamps 2 or 3 are active, the device is
working properly.
The lamps are only active, if there is a radio sig-
nal. If there is only one transmitter this will
happen only all 10 minutes for a short period of
time.
To force radio transmission:
Turn the temperature on the transmitter to
maximum value after some seconds there will be
a transmission. After having done this turn the
temperature to minimum value for activating the
next transmission.
This is working on all transmitters.
Note: After having finished the test set the tem-
perature to the original value.
Specific actions to force transmission
INSTAT 868-r:
Manually switching on/off the output
(see there 6.12)
INSTAT 868-r1:
press Reset (below cover, see there 5.1)
