To achieve optimum performance from your Espresso Machine, follow this procedure.
Beware of hot surfaces around the Grouphead and Showerhead when inserting
orremovingtheFilterHolder.EnsureGroupheadHeatShieldiscorrectlytted.
Risk of burns and scalding.
The basis of all coffee beverages is an espresso shot – a single or double shot of strong,
black coffee. Ground coffee only has a three-day shelf life, so only grind the amount of coffee
required at a time. Use a medium grind suitable for espresso machines. Toone might block
the Filter, too coarse will result in a weak and under-extracted espresso.
When making a milk-based drink, always make the espresso before steaming or frothing the
milk to ensure optimum coffee extraction temperature.
Your appliance has an automatic shut off feature to save energy. The machine will turn off after
15 minutes of no use. There will be an audible click as the Power Switch returns to the ‘Off’
Position.

If coffee is not level before
tamping, coffee density will
be uneven and will cause
water to tunnel through
less dense areas, resulting in
weak coffee.
14
Wipe the rim of the Cup

ground coffee. If you don’t,
a watertight seal will not
form and water or coffee
will leak from the Brewhead.
Caution: Grouphead

frothing milk – optimum temperature is between 60°c - 70°c.
Always prime the Boiler before warming/frothing milk by following the Priming instructions on
page 12. A full Boiler (185ml) will give maximum steam run time, which will heat or froth 500
ml (2 x 250ml) of milk. Note: If you do not prime before steaming, the steam might run out
before the Steam Function has completed.
Do not exceed 3 minutes of steam time without repriming the Boiler. If steam
speed reduces, stop steam cycle and prime Boiler immediately. Using the Steam
Function until Boiler is empty will cause permanent damage to the appliance not
covered by guarantee. Ensure that the Steam Wand is positioned over the Drip
Tray when not in use.

3.2. Steam for a shorter period of time.
4. You are trying to froth too much milk. 4/5.1 Your Espresso Machine uses a boiler system,
providing a limited supply of steam. Prime the Boiler
before every steam cycle and only run the Steam
Function for a maximum of 3 minutes. If the steam
stops dispensing you have emptied the boiler. This
will cause permanent damage not covered by your
guarantee.
4/5.2 Ensure the Water Tank is correctly situated
with the Water Tank Pipes in place (see page 11).
5. You have not primed the Boiler.
6. You are not using the Froth Nozzle. 6. Ensure Froth Nozzle is installed. See page 19,
gure 1.
NO HOT WATER OR STEAM/ REDUCED STEAM OUTPUT FROM THE STEAM WAND:
1. All steam has been used. Boiler is
empty.
1. Prime the boiler. See page 19, gure 1. Ensure

calibrated tamper such as the Dualit Tamper.
4. Level of tamped coffee is too high, or
coffee grind is too ne.
4.1 Use less ground coffee.
4.2 Use a coarser coffee grind. A single espresso
should take 18-30 seconds to extract.
MY COFFEE HAS NO CREMA:
1. Essential oils are deposited in Filter
Holder when coffee is dispensed.
1. Descale and clean your machine and Filter
Holder. Use a pin to clear the Cup Filter holes
and clean the Showerhead.
2. Incorrect amount of coffee and or
unsuitable grind size is used. Coffee has
not been tamped correctly.
2.1 Adjust amount of ground coffee used.
2.2 Adjust grind size.
2.3 Try a different coffee bean roast to match
preferences.
See Barista Tips at dualit.com.
3. Your beans are not fresh. 3. Store coffee beans in an airtight container for
up to 18 months after roasting. Once opened,
coffee beans must be used within a week.
4. Different coffee beans produce
different amounts of crema.
4. Try different avours or roasts of whole coffee
beans until you are satised with the results.
MY ESPRESSO MACHINE IS VIBRATING DURING USE:
1. Your machine has a powerful pump

4. Water is dripping from the Steam
Wand.
4. It is normal for the Steam Wand to leak after
use. Always position the Steam Wand over the
Drip Tray so that any drips will be collected.
Failure to do so may result in water collecting on
your work surface.
I AM GETTING COFFEE GROUNDS IN MY COFFEE:
1. The coffee grounds you are using are
too ne.
1. Clean the Cup Filter and Filter Holder and
ensure that the screw on the Cup Filter is secure.

with the unlock symbol. Lift, then twist until the
Filter Holder is in line with the lock symbol.
MY CUP FILTER FALLS OUT WHEN I HIT THE KNOCK BOX BANG BAR:
1. The Filter Holder handle is hitting the
bang bar.
1. Make sure that you hit the bang bar with the
Cup Filter, not the Filter Holder handle.
2. The Cup Filter is loose in the Filter
Holder.
2. Make sure that the spring is in the Filter Holder.
COFFEE LEAKING FROM THE BREWHEAD:
1. The Brewhead and/or the
Showerhead is blocked.
1. Clean the Showerhead following instructions on
page 22.
2. Water is dripping from Brewhead
when steaming.
2. Excess water in the Brewhead is left over from
previous operation. This is not cause for concern.
3. Coffee grounds on the Filter Holder

concern.
1.2 Ensure the Water Tank is correctly situated
with the Water Tank Pipes in place (see page 11).
GROUND COFFEE IS STICKING TO THE TAMPER:
1. Tamper is damp when tamping. 1. Dry the Tamper before use.
2. You are not twisting the Tamper as
you remove it from the Cup Filter to
polish the coffee.
2. Twist the Tamper as you remove it from the
Cup Filter.
MY FILTER BASKETS AND/OR MY CUP FILTERS HAVE DISCOLOURED:
1. The Filter Holder and Cup Filters
discolour if exposed to descale solution
for too long, or if the descale solution is
too strong.
1. If you would like to buy a new Filter Holder or
